Any information on using "Cometic" Head Gaskets on a 392 hemi, instead of using "O" rings in the head with a relief grove in the block?

Whats your reasoning for o-ringing? Getting head lift?

I was building 392/426/472 Hemis for Gary Stanton Racing Engines when we first started to make the switch to Cometic MLS head gaskets? They rock, take care of the dreaded head gasket leaks that many Hemis are prone to, allow for good power, and really hold up. Heres the key to a Cometic, or any MLS head gasket though, deck surface finish. The machine hops that use them often, are typically these high compression import 4 cylinder shops, my machinist builds enough of them that he found doing a mild polish on the deck surface, and head surface gives a great seal for the MLS head gasket...and with the use of the right grade head stud, you can avoid head lift pretty much totally.(we ran 42lbs of boost through a SBF I built, non O ring, conventional 8.8 deck heigth and Cometic head gaskets....)

Thanks ShelbyStang: Very interesting with your Ford comment. Ford has similar issues as the old hemi's have, few head bolts/studs as compared to a S.B. or a B.B. Chev....

I don't want to 'O' ring the heads due to head lift and the obvious issues with water leaks...

Anytime. I really take a shine to the Hemis, after you build 450 some of them you get to likin'...or hatin' em! haha.

So your saying not cause of lift and not cause of water leak? Or because of water leak??

    Silicone is also your friend!
