My endeavor to build an early hot rodded v8 model A was a journey of firsts having never done one completely before. Took 7 years working on it part time and then when I retired 4 years ago, doing something everyday. I've had plenty of cool cars but many were complete and I just did modifications. This one I can actually say I did everything from the frame up with the exception of the wiring, which my brother helped on, and the paint, although I did all the body work. Just didn't spray or stripe it. I have some minor debugging to do on some things but I consider the car is mostly complete now. One of the last items I wanted to get completed was a top. So here is the last of my firsts! The top a friend and I did. I know it's not perfect and maybe a little different but it is good enough for me at this point. Need to put the end caps for the hidem on, add a few snaps on the main center back panel, then cut the window in. Up next in the queue is a 1954 Met convertible that I have some ideas for.
Awesome over all. Very cool.! I would put in a rear window, but that's only my likes.Or did ya fool me,by making a roll up part? Just cool +rod.
Thanks guys! I could roll up the rear panel but its kinda dark in there with the top up! Plus its kinda hard to see out of so I think I'll go with a window! Here's a few more shots for anyone thats interested. Most of these have been posted up here in various threads over the years.
I like it a lot. Well done!! Can you handle a criticism? If not...don't scroll down. Last chance... Paint the radiator black.
There is a tech I did some time ago, about making my own folding top. I covered how I did my rear window,it may have ideas you would like? On my Bobtailed 28A roadster! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...top-a-how-too-do-it-tech.857951/#post-9479688 It also rolls up for more air flow.
@GordonC, you nailed it and left a few things-to iron up and that's very Traditional...top is coming along nicely and the Hood is good...thanks for sharing your journey...just promise to keep sharing pics of your further adventures with it... On another note thanks for your part in inspiring the Stogyism below and Piston man is one Kool Kat... I'll get a Hood on it in the near future... Credit to All that Inspired This
Thanks guys for the compliments! I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of all you guys here! Dana I did see that posting on your top. Read it completely. Billy I can take criticism and suggestions as well. One better than the other! I painted the front of the rad black but didn't even think of the backside of it. The alum fan and the rad are so close in color that I painted the tips of the blades orange just to keep from getting clipped when its running. Doing it black would help there. Thanks.
As I am almost done on the 31 and because I can't get this drawing out of my mind here is something along the lines I have planned for the Met. Saw this on here and borrowed it. I'll be sharing what I do and looking for guidance as I work my way through that as well.
Gord, I like the Continental Kit on the Nash... Very unique Vehicles similar in a sense at least in the focus of size and economy to the Henry J when they were new...and make a few adjustments and a Hotrod shows up and the cutesy goes bye bye...I look forward to the build here... Your pretty detail oriented so I'm sure it'll be a knockout...
Since you’re coming to the end of your firsts does this mean you’re going back for seconds?[emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Seconds, no I don't think so. I am not a small guy and as much as I love the 31 its a snug fit to cruise in it for any length of time. The Met actually is a bit larger interior wise than the A and given I have an itch to do something with a little more modern V8 I think that is where my energy will go. I'll always love model A's with flatheads though!
