    Hi eveyone
We are planning on Comming to America from Australia ( about a years time )
My Wife Jackie was born in Iowa and spent many years in California and said thats the place to be . When i was 11 i bought my first model car it was a 56 Chevy and on the front of the instructions it had a story about America and its cars . I fell in Love and dreamt of one day going to America . I am now 44 and that dream is still there strong as ever after hearing story`s from Jackie . I have worked on many cars including MERCULES and another big custom that will be going to America in 2013 . Cant say to much about it but i hope it will make an impression . Im not sure how long i have to live there untill i can leagally work so we will have to survive on Jackie`s wages till then . I am so excited i feel like im 11 again oppening that box and reading the instructions . Cant wait for a chance to meet some of you and see your Cars
    Cheers John & Jackie Gilbert

  3. Y'all need to try to make to Lone Star Round Up in Austin, Texas. Where in Iowa was Jackie born? I'm originally from Mason City.

Hey trade ya, I'll go your way. :) Hope you have a blast over here and if you hurry I have some snow that needs shoveling. Might as well get the whole experiance. :)

  5. You will need a work visa and a social security number to work (legally) here. Its a long winded process and very confusing.

Do your research sooner rather than later...and best of luck. Best move I ever made was coming to the USA.

I bet 80% of the US population can't prononce "Da Moyn" correctly. You'll fit right in.

    Ditto times 100.
Find youself an immigration lawyer to file papers for you NOW. Do not wait until you arrive at the port of entry to find yourself turned away! You should be able to get a visa based on your wifes citizenship but you will have to jump through the right hoops in the correct order. If you need more infomation PM me - I will be glad to share my experience with you.

    Hi John,
Hope all goes well and some of us actually get to meet you and your wife. This is a site you might want to visit if you haven't already done so. You can type in a search in the upper right corner of the page for anything that might help, like immigration.
    Take care, Bruce

Oh, dude, you have GOT to make it to the West Coast Kustoms Cruizing Nationals! More beautiful (and some not-so beautiful) kustoms in one place than anywhere else in the world. Really a "gotta see it" event.
C'mon over, mate! We'll put a burger on the grill for ya. [Note my nice segue from 'Strailian cliche to American cliche?]

    Cali, beautiful place but expensive..

I employ a few foreigners, one from Oz, two from Canada and one from England. In my experience it's best to hire yourself an attorney specializing in visas and such. It's worth a few grand to have someone who knows the rules, knows the people to talk to and can help get through the reed tape. We have done the leg work ourselves before but we went to using an attorney and it saves so much hassle.
    well worth a few grand.

    Johno,
Mercules showed it was up there with the best in the world, that means you are too. Your work speaks for itself, like the guys have told you start planning now so you can hit the ground running.

Welcome to the States, look forward to you making it over here, where there are more hotrod for you to play with. I often wanted to visit Austrailia, I always thought it would be neat. Don't let Jackie talk you into milking cows while your in Iowa, that could be dangerous:eek: They aren't used to right hand drive/left side of the road, and might kick ya:D
