My earliest drag racing memories were of Lions Drag Strip around 1959-63. The Comp coupes left a lasting impression with the whitewall slicks and exhaust flames. Bantams were (still are) my favorite. Any more pics out there????
This is goin' to be a great thread. Thanks for startin' it... Lets go Royal and Kiwi start postin'... Smokey
I grew up near Indy, so I went from '62 to '74. Loved the comp cars! I even helped push the Tennessee Boll Weevil on the trailer at age 14! I haven't stopped smiling yet! Here is a model I built in tribute.

Hey Steve, Marners car was one of the nicest of that era. I sure would like to see it restored or recreated. A friend of mine has a Bantam coupe body but I have too many projects already....L.B.
Cool thread and a nice change of pace. Seems like everybody that brings a car to the track these days wants to call it a "Gasser" because it's the latest fad. It's nice to see non gasser cars from back when.
