That's a 35-36 Willys sedan in front of that Comp. coupe. It was a gasser also out of Progress unitd.

“Creeper's Car Club/Sandoval Brothers Dodge powered Bantam coupe at the '57 NHRA Nationals, where it won B/C. The small Dodge didn't put out a lot of power, as evidenced by the 109mph class win and the tiny slicks. But it was a very cool-looking car. I saw it at Santa Ana in the summer of '57 as they tuned for the Nationals.” R&C photo.

    Hello,

One of the most interesting things in reading those old Drag News copies are the memories it brings back. Those times are/were a long time ago. But, reading those articles does bring up some interesting race cars and designs.

We never went to the Santa Ana Drags, even though it was about 30 miles away. The reason being, by the time we were into the drag racing scene, the Santa Ana Dragstrip closed, too. My brother did go at one time, but his stories are missing, being overtaken with his history on the Westside of Long Beach and Lion’s Dragstrip.

This Competition Coupe had the mean look every time it was photographed in the magazine articles and Drag News papers. A carbureted Dodge Motor propelled the racecar to many wins during it time.

It was one difficult design to get some proportions correct for artwork.

upload_2025-11-6_4-12-47.png Sandoval Brothers Bantam B/C, Santa Ana, CA, probably at the NHRA Nationals, where it won class in '57, obviously after they fixed this shelled-out trans....small Dodge, ran 109.

Front view of the above car. I don't know if Von Dutch did the artwork, but it sure looked like it. I saw it run at Santa Ana in July '57, tuning up for the Nationals...
