I bought a pretty basic wiring kit a few years ago and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since. I'm going to remove all the 6V wiring from my pickup as its all hacked up and in pretty bad shape. I'm also going to switch to 12V. So far I've learned that I'll need a diode of some sort to drop the voltage at the fuel/oil/water temp gauges. And of course new bulbs, but that's about it. I'm not asking how to convert to 12V, rather are there any tips or tricks to make this job easier? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Obvious tip-watch sharp edges. Wrap in split loom or something like that. With my wiring in my 61 Unibody, I used non-insulated but connectors to make connections crimped well and with Marine heat shrink over it. Marine shrink has a glue built into it that seals the weather out. Take your time, use quality connectors. PCV grommets work when you cant find a normal big grommet to run wiring through a firewall or core-support etc. I have bought a ton of electrical supplies from this place. very simple website but they ship fast and have decent pricing. http://www.sherco-auto.com/
