I may have posted this in the past on another thread. I saw the XM800 about five years ago when it was in a private collection in Chicago, it was in a warehouse along with quite a few other interesting cars including a Tucker 48. Here are some pictures I took of it that day.
I like many clean customs. I try never to critize another persons idea of a nice car. That is an ugly thing. Time to finish my drink & relax
Interesting - it appears the steering wheel is the production accessory steering wheel for the ‘55 Mercury. The below photo is from the Ford Heritage Vault website.
Whoever designed that had a very good eye for details. From the side view, I especially like the rear skirt shape where the angle matches the angle of the rear bumper. Little things mean a lot.
Hey @AmishMike Grinning to myself here, lets just call a "spade, a garden tool" fellow HAMBER. The XM-800 does exist, and it has some very interesting lines and features to it! Some would say elegant, some would say outrageously over the top in its hilarious execution of chrome trim, and accents! There was a lot of thought about its design and a lot of work to create it ! To these 71 year old eyes, "It's a kick ass ride, that I would love to own and drive" And you have every right, as an individual, to declare it "An Ugly Thing" Your results and mileage may vary! HELL ! Everyone's results may vary greatly ! Cheshire Grin. Now, you can have that cocktail and indeed relax ! Thanks for your honest post from Dennis.
I got to check this out at the Savoy, also. Really enjoyed it. The design had some great concepts and creativity. Neat to see for sure.
