  2. Post a pic if you find it, I don't think any of our guys brought a Bird. We are fortunate to be the caretakers these great race cars and they do belong on the track for all to see. Thanks to people like you, we have an audience that enjoys watching us live out our childhood fantasy of playing race car drivers from a golden age...thank you for your support!

this is the only shot. I took on Saturday, just after you guys rolled/thundered into the joint. Do you ever roll up to the Mid Atlantic area? I would absolutely love to see your cars driven at pace.

That was one of the cars that I judged in the Historic Race Car cl***. Its a 1949 HRG Roadster "the Hurgenhauser. This was a one off prototype fitted with an Offenhauser racing engine.

You're jumping ahead! ; ) I haven't gotten to Radnor yet! And yes, I agree, it a somewhat underated show. The grounds are beautiful. Michael Furman is the artistic eye of the event. He does a wondeful job of putting the field together.

NICE! That looks like an HRG, anyone else notice the Packard "Gray Wolf" next to the AMC in one of the above photo collections?[IMG]

Thanks for posting, I like the red Meteor, I got a chuckle out of the Gold 32 rolling through the auction line since we did the car, went through a couple owners and ended up at the auction.

You're right about the HRG, check out my last post above.

As far as the Gray Wolf, I love that shot of it next to the Javelin. I bet the Javelin would win...

Here are the only shots I got of the Gray Wolf. I believe its a replica. Someone on the HAMB has a direct relationship with that car.

The last shot is one of my favorites from Amelia. It was one of the last shots I took, end of show, one guy giving another guy a tow.

On to the next event which I think was the Belle Machinna in the Poconos. Another must attend event should you have the means to do so. I had the honor of traveling up with Kendal Merritt and his dad **** Merritt. **** Merritt has owned just about every vintage racing Ferrari whose wheels graced the ground in the US. The drive up was around 7 hours but pasted so quickly due to the wonderful stories told by Mr Merritt. One particular story really stood out involving a Ferrari 250 LM. Mr Merritt decided one day back in the late 60's that he wanted to see just exactly how fast the 250 could travel. He took to some interstate late at night up near Detroit. He was traveling so fast that each county could only radio to the next county over that there was something red traveling insanely fast into their jurisdiction. He finally came to a stop at a drawbridge that had been retracted in his honor. He spent the night in jail but seemed to indicate that it was well worth it.

The Bella Machinna is a show devoted to the Italian Marquees. This past year the organizers pulled off the incredible feat of gathering one example of each Maserati Birdcage model totalling 6. I don't know if this had ever been done before.

Here come the pictures... The first picture is off the big block Bizzarini that we trailered up. Its a stunning car with an incredible sound. The second car pictured is a very unique Intermecanica Italia. Its is possibly the finest example on the planet. A friend of mine re-engineered this car by moving the motor back 4 inches and down some, plus all sorts of suspension upgrades.

I got a quick ride in the white Bizzarini pictured. That was a tight, tight fit. My head was against the roof. But it was a cool ride none the less.

    regards

Here are the Maseratis mentioned above. I think the only time all 6 models of birdcages have been gathered was for some factory event. I don't know how they managed to find them but what spectacular cars they are.

There were a bunch of Lambos at Bella. I found one Contach out in the morning dew. The early models, unadorned by all the windows and stuff, are the purest form of angular design.

Thanks for the shots of the Delahaye's...........if I hit the lottery that would be the second car that I would pursue.

  16. Ken we were at all the same shows. Sorry we didn't meet. I was hanging out with my buddy who has a Lambo that was on the field at Pebble. Some other friends had the Red anniversary Lambo above. Those cars aren't my cup of tea, the Bizzarini's and Iso's are more my style, and the racing Maserati's were simply fantastic. One was from the Indy museum if I am not mistaken.

Again, hope that I'll bump into you at one of the many shows out here.

I was invited to judge at the Eastern US Concours d'Elegance benifiting the Burn Foundation. This was the 19th edition and was held in Bethlehem PA. The event started off with a driving event ending at a winery. It rained so that kept most of the fun cars back home. A few brave souls brought out their machinery. It was a real treat seeing the Vincent Black Shadow. The current Bentley featured the 16 grand ceramic brake upgrade.

The party that evening had a couple of special cars out front. The 39 ACE was gorgeous and the Rolls with its snake headed horn very cool. There was a Bugatti Veyron which isn't the most beautiful car in the barn but with over 1000 horsepower on tap and 253 mph, not too shabby. My friend brought the Bugatti and Bentley to Mario Andretti's house in Nazareth. Mario didn't care too much for the Bentley but the Bugatti seemed to capture his imagination.

An interesting development in the concours scene is the realization that organizers must grow the hobby. They have taken steps to do so by including more motorcycles and muscle cars. You'll see some sterling examples here. I've never been much of a motorcyle guy but I am continually impressed by the level of details and their visability. You really get to see everything. I'm also impressed in thinking about the crazy dudes that were buying these machines back in the day. Real danger loving rebels. Not alot of safety in there.

    regards

Ok, here come some of the big boys at the show.

We start off wiht a 23 AceXP3 with side car. next up is an Iso Fashini Coupe out of Ohio. Incredible car with a stunning finish. Then there is an ultra rare Minerva AF transformable town car out of New Jersey. Then we see a 29 Chrysler 75 Roadster. The silver car is an unforgettable Duesenburg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton. The next few shots are of the custom Hot Rod Duesenburg with a body designed by Northport and built by some marine spe******ts. The car is a sight to be seen. The last car up is a 29 Packard model 640 sport sedan.

    regards

Kvisser the towed and towing cars are owned by the same guy. The Franklin was at Hershey a few years ago, real nice unrestored racer, The "Gray Wolf" replica was there in 2008. Finest replica I've seen, and the fact that he was straight up about building it from factory blueprints was very impressive.

The lady that owns that Minerva is really cool. She usually paints her nails to match her car.

I've been judging up at Radnor for the past few years. Great show with wonderful cars. I'll get to posting some images of Radnor in this post a little later on. I still haven't gotten thru 50% of the images!

meanwhile, here are a few more from the Burn Foundation.

Continuing on with the Burn Foundation concours, here are some more shots. This batch will show you one of the themes of the concours, the tailfin. I love big iron and tailfins. Even though my 64 Lincoln doesn't have them, I love tailfins!

Here are the last sets of the Burn Foundation images. As you will see, the changing influences of concours as muscle cars and exotic cl***es have been introduced to bring in new blood. We haven't really started seeing any Japanese inclusion unless its one of those 2000 convertible.

A few more. As you can see at the end of this set, I love hood ornaments. They are wonderful to photograph and play with depth of field.

Here is a quick set from a local Cadillac show, held twice a year. They usually have 100 very nice Cadillacs and LaSalles. Again, you'll see a focus on the hood ornaments.
