i'm wondering what causes these engines not to stall out at idle? Does fuel injection help? In other words, does fuel injection help to keep an engine with a very lumpy cam/idle running whereas if the engine had carbureation, the carburetors wouldn't be able to handle keeping the engine running with a cam with lumpiness to such an extreme degree?

If not, then what is the secret?

    2) p.s., i love the size proportions of the rear tires-----the ratio of width to height.

  2. Congrats Condor! It has been many years in the making - now we just need you at the track!

  3. Fuel injection's like the Hilborn 4 port don't have an idle circuit.

    Thanks for the links:

    1) Yes, what i generally meant was when these dragsters, FC's etc. are at/near the starting line after burning out etc., the engines sound very unsmooth, almost missing alot. Yet, they continue to run;( i meant when they go to nitro mode after the initial gas start) i was wondering how that works--how they manage to stay running?

    a) i understand that alcohol dragsters and FC's rev up really high at the starting line (which CAN'T be good for the drivetrain) but that's another story.

    2) i take it from the links that the nitro engine is not nessesarily a complex engine, but a tempermental one; You would need to get familiar with it's nuances and quirks which would come thru experience?
Maybe what happened before(and hopefully now) is that the person who built your engine could teach you how to run it?

    God vs. Satan?

I think Tim sold one of them to Bucky Austin.

Bucky is to nostalgia drag cars as Bill Gates is to software.

Or not. I just have drag car collection envy over Bucky's accumulation of nitro history.

Old or new? The new stuff turns on another pump, and the tuneup is very different than old and vintage stuff. Rough Idle is okay, provided the car moves from that point, and they are concerned with how it moves. If it idles, that's good enough.

You can play with a candle and it won't hurt you unless you ignore warning signs. If you play with a torch, it can leave permenant scars!
What the articles say is that if you learn on gas, the tuning is different, so it does not translate like the candle/torch.
