Hi Folks, Just trying to get some history on my Willys Aero G***er, does anybody recognize it from in & around Rhode Island or Connecticut (Dragway?) There is an old sticker on the vent window. I've attached a couple of pics. Any info appreciated, Thanks,
It looks like it is a very rare model. I hope someone remembers the car for you. Maybe a little more history on the car would help jog some memories. How did you find it? Jimbo
The CT Dragway win Decals are still being sold so its possible someone added that decal to make it look like it raced on the strip. Hope you find a picture of it racing on the strip then you will know for sure.
If that decal was fake-aged, the guy was real good at it. The red does not seem to be as cracked as the other parts. It could be faked, but it sure looks real. I never went, but there is a CT dragway reunion, that is where I would try.
That car has been around for a long time, if it is the one I saw a couple times as its a pretty unique car.. Not at CT dragway though, never saw it there in the 70's [I was there a lot] but not saying it was never there..I saw it first in I think western CT, like Lichfield area or maybe Plainville/Bristol and then a bunch of years later cruszing through McDonalds in Newington, CT. and south it went down the Berlin Turnpike, this was/is taxing the memory banks, think it was in the 70's maybe early 80's..Never saw it at a show or cruse to where I could walk up to it..
To Jimbo, I found the car on craigs list, I bought it from a guy in Scituate, RI, he bought it from a guy in Central Falls, RI in 1995. The Central Falls guy bought it (location unknown) in 1971 from the guy who built it up to its present g***er form in the 60's. The car has a big block chevy, engine block code 3968512, date coded may/69, the front engine pad has no numbers, it is internally balanced, & has a solid lifer cam, far as I can tell so far it appears to be a 427, not sure if it is an original solid motor, could be, so not sure if its a 335, 390, 400, 425, horsepower or whatever, the guy I bought it from was told it was a 454, LS6 or 7, but the numbers don't jive, I'm still investigating other numbers, ie:heads, etc.. It has a T400 automatic, have not checked numbers yet, shifted by a period Hurst AutoStick 1. The front axle ***embly is a 1954 Chevy truck, the rear axle is a 1957 Chevy, 4.11 spool. Thats all I have right now. To ronnieroadster, Yes, I thought of that & it is possible the sticker is a reproduction or non-original fake, it does look old though. Thanks for your input. To F & J, Yes, the decal does look old, but it could have been just bought years back (even the 60's) & just applied to the window, never raced. Thanks for your input. To seb fontana, Nice history! "IF" the car was drag raced it prob would have been in the 60's. I didn't realize the car spent so much time in CT, perhaps the guy who bought the car in 1971 lived out there before living in Central Falls, RI, or maybe the guy who before him who built it lived out in CT, not RI. Interesting you say you saw @ a McDonalds, I was told the guy who owned in 1971 may have worked @a McDonalds @some point, it was scene in the parking lot a few times, I just ***umed they meant RI, maybe worked @ a McD in both places, CT & RI, ..or maybe just liked Big Macs!..Who knows for sure. Keep "taxing" that memory seb, this is good stuff you are recalling! Thanks for your time & input!
