Typically those DMV folks don't understand the intrinsic value of "art".:(

More nuggets of wisdom from those that have gone before me and learned a hard lesson. Thanks!

Back in the old days a trip to CT DMV was akin to a trip to the dentist for a root c**** or maybe a frontal lobotomy. Anything over 10 years needed to be inspected and anything from out of state too.

These days its a lot smoother. When I registered my Model A, as it was as stated, VIN verification at a local emissions station with all your DMV paperwork with you.

Down side was its a Model A and the VIN is stamped into the frame rail (hot rod, has a flathead) and they needed to SEE the VIN, had to lift the body up so he could see it with a mirror. That was my only set back.

    Good luck,

Unless the car has one of those Rolling Bones gun slit style windshields and it looks right when you stand back and look at it and not out of proportion you probably won't get har***ed about it.

Many thanks for all of the shared experiences. Hard earned all, I’m sure.

I am expecting delivery of my “new” old car on Tuesday evening. Then it will be VIN verification at the emissions garage just three blocks from here, followed by a trip to the dark side.

Cliff. I asked the seller for the location of the VIN tag and it’s on the driver’s door jam. That should make it infinitely easier than your experience.

Thanks for the link to Deuce Days, great pics! The car I’m getting has a 3” chop, so nothing so extreme as to draw the ire of the local gendarmes.

    Update, and conclusion:

Well, it turns out that all of my trepidation’s that were influenced by my last visit to DMV twenty years ago were all for naught.

I gathered what I thought were all of the do***ents I would need to complete the first phase of the registration process seamlessly. I was too confident in my docu gathering abilities.

I went mid morning on Tuesday, took a number, and waited my turn a****st a sea of mizzable faces. One hour later my number was called. I made my way to the ***igned window and was greeted with a pleasant “good morning!”. Well, this is good I thought. The nice lady went through my paperwork nodding affirmatively, then said, do you have your wife’s license? The blood ran from my beard! “No” I answered, why? “Well because it’s joint ownership, I’ll need her license also”. She looked a my address and said, “oh you don’t live to far away, can you go and get it?” I said, “it’s not the drive I mind, it’s waiting another hour in cue”. “Oh, you don’t have to wait, just come back to me and if I’m with someone, I’ll take you next”. What!!? This is definitely the new and improved version of Hadees.

I was back within fifteen minutes and outta there in five.

My next task was VIN verification just up the road from me. I went yesterday and breezed right through.

Went back to my new favorite place today, nah! Had to wait two minutes shy of two hours but sailed through the paper process, got my new Cl***ic plates and put the DMV in my rear view mirror!

Thanks for all of the tips and hand holding. I hope to never have to go back. If I do, perhaps a surrogate is in order.

I'll be going through the same process with my car next week. First hot rod ive registered since I moved to CT. Glad to hear you made out well. It's nice there's no inspection. I'm from Rhode Island originally which has no inspection for antiques hence my 7 inch tall windshield.

If you want to minimize the wait go about a half hour before they open and get in line at the door. You'll be done and out in less than an hour.
