you mean those little stamped-out-of-sheetmetal jobs? i've used'em on 216-235 chevy con-rods.are you building an inliner?
wow the hamb has really grown.on page 9 already.i dont get on here as often as i used to.yeah those stamped thingys like yorg is saying.i had never heard of them untill they popped up on my 394.i read somewhere they where on inliners from the 30's-50's.as i understand it you hand tighten them, and then turn them a 1/4 turn with a wrench.they really dig into the nut.this 394 wasnt stock it had jahns .100 over pop ups, etc.he used the newer style 12 point rod nuts, and the PAL nuts.i was just mostly curious about them, and why they where used it the first place.did they have problems with nuts comming loose? eric
[ QUOTE ] Sounds scary. Toss 'em, and use good ARP nuts. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto. I always use ARP bottom end fasteners and have yet to have a problem.
well i didnt plan to use them.i just like to learn more about stuff i dont know about.btw BD arp doest make rod bolts for 394s.although i e-mailed them just yesterday giving them the specs to see if they have anything close.specs are 3/8-24-2.6875(underhead leghth).if anyone knows of an application let me know. eric

I thought that they would have pretty much all the bases covered. Even some of the weird engines I've built have had pretty decent availability.
I toss 'em in the trash. I'm afraid of one coming off. I use a drop of loc-tite on the threads instead...never had a problem.
ARP does not recommend loctite, they say to use assembly oil only and torque. I've never heard of any racers doing any different. Yorg, you are the second person to tell me they used Mopar ARP rod bolts on their 324 rods. But yeah, 394's are long. Erdy, let me know if ARP replies. If not by e-mail, call them by phone with a "custom application" question and they'll help you. 5 years ago they told me they had 2 full-time guys doing nothing but helping match up special needs with their existing inventory.
Oh yeah, I think it would be easier to install the '65-7 400/425 rods in the 394 and use the ARP bolts for those.
