What is the correct orientation for installing 8BA Connecting Rods? The Frank Oddo book says the " stamped number on the rod is visible to you from the outside of the cylinder block". None of the other books give any details on this. Can anybody confirm? Thanks!
Per the 1953 Ford Truck Shop Manual (page 60 if someone has a copy they can scan and post a picture of) the orientation is given by the oil squirt hole. The manual says "position oil squirt hole on same side as piston DOT for number 5-6-7-8 cylinders" and "position oil squirt hole on side opposite piston DOT for number 1-2-3-4 cylinders". The piston DOT goes toward the front of the engine. Cylinders 1-2-3-4 are the p***enger side, and 5-6-7-8 are the driver side.
Yep, that's the general rule for connecting rod installation. The stamped # goes toward the oil pan rail.
Was this the accepted rule of thumb? I've been searching the board without wanting to start a new thread, but this is all I found on the subject. I'm trying to figure out which way the rods go in.
