I`ve had these pix from Hot rod magazine on my Shop-wall for ages .. Guess it shows that Glass can be class ( Dave Conrad built this car back in the mid seventies !! ) Klaz
Nothing wrong with a glass car as long as it doesn't wind up looking like a "gold-chainer's VISA dream". I can recall during the early 60s when OEM steel bodies were competing with silver ingots that the fiberglass bodies (quality ones) were considered viable alternatives and pretty much acceptable to the run-of-the-mill hot rodder. As that market grew - the demand for a reproduction body in steel burgeoned to the point where it became profitable to invest in the tooling to make the most popular parts and/or complete bodies. We all know the story since then. In my opinion, fiberglass still has a place at the rod meets and drive-ins as long as they look like hot rods....who cares. Yes, 'steel is real', but I'm in favor of accommodating everyone that wants to be here without being snooty. Many of the 'glass cars that were built during the inception of their introduction are still out there today, and still looking pretty good. dj
conrad is still breathing and above room temperature, the car was sold several years ago the price was in the $12,00.00 dollar range.
I have always liked his cars. Recently had the chance to visit his shop, has an amazing collection, really nice. Thanks to Hamber EVANS and 3 97s and Dave for the opportunity. Bob
as said above, 'glass cars are fine when they look like hot rods, theres a couple great examples on this board too. Of course a pastel colored 38 coupè w/ pt cruiser tail lights and hiunday headlights is another story Kool car.
