Bought a set of CPP tubular control arms for my 55 Chevy sedan. After installed the shocks will not fit up inside spring.Spring has a curve from the lower control ar to the pocket for the spring.tried 2 different length springs.I have had this car since 1971and I put a set of station wagon springs in it in 1978 with no problem. But now I don't know what has gone wromg.I have installed many springs myshelf.Called CPP a couple times but get the same answer. Will settle down with weight on it.You can't bounce the frt end at all.Have the engine in the frame.Body on rotisserie. Thanks for any help.About to drive me crazy.

The advice you were given is correct.

IF you have the arms and springs in it and it's just letting the suspension hang at the end of its travel it MIGHT be fine once you get it together and the car sitting on its wheels.

It might compress the springs enough and arm geometry straighten out enough to take a lot of that curvature out of the spring and allow the shocks the go thru and mount.

I wouldn't get too excited until it's setting at ride height with weight on the suspension...

They will straighten out when you get the weight of the vehicle with engine and trans in it on them. It isn't worth worrying about now.

  5. When the upper bump stops are touching the frame my shocks only have about 1/16" clearance to the springs, stock arms. As already said get weight on it first.

The engine and transmission is in and the tires are on and it is sitting on movers so theere is weight on the chassis. You can't bounce the frt end any.I mean stiff. Thanks I will keep at it.Go back to the body to finish stripping the bottom of the floor.

If you can't bounce it at all with no shocks on it, perhaps something is binding or over torqued.

The body is a considerable percentage of the overall weight, in reality probably 50% at least.

I would trust the advice above and holdoff the panic until the fully trimmed body is back on the chassis.

If you could move the springs now I would be concerned as you don't weigh anywhere close to the remaining weight of the rest of the vehicle.

  9. How tight are the bolts on the control arm bushings. You don’t tighten the control arm bolts until you have all the weight on the wheels.
