Just pondering this ourselves , 36 dash ,36 electric fuel gauge, 28 model A tank. The tank is approx 8” deep and the original mechanical A sender hole is near the top of the tank . At first glance it seems the new electric sender would need to be closer to half way down the tank to allow the float full travel E to F. Would appreciate ant thoughts on this.

my thought was to go into the front of the tank with a mid sixties ford sender. they mount in the side of the tanks. an access hole/panel would have to be made in the firewall.

The mid sixties sound good , but do they have the correct ohm rating for an original early ford gauge.? Are you talking like a galaxie or something?

The only hiccup with the mustang sender is that the tank seems it will require a matching bayonet type fitting fixing to the tank , Hmmm sealing it could be an issue. Ohm rating seems similar.
