    Good afternoon,

I am interested in converting a 64-73 Ford Toploader 4-speed transmission to shift on the top. I know this can be done with a Jeep T-176 shifter ***embly (if you notch the case and remove the internal shift forks).

My question is can it be done with a Ford T170TS shifter ***emble (all aluminum Tremec 4-speed with 4th being overdrive used in 1984-85 Ford trucks)? The reason I am asking is because I already own a T170TS transmission and used T-176 shifter ***emblies are getting harder and harder to find and more and more expensive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Josh

I see no reason why it will not work, the gears are basically the same. The main problem with those aluminum ******s was the ****py shift mechanism was always wearing out, removing it should make a better setup.
