Working on my 29 Es*** coupe and the previous owner added a drop tube axle with what I believe are Chevy spindles that have been modified for Mustang IMG_20181211_165334.jpg IMG_20181211_165326.jpg discs. I'd like to ditch the discs and go back to drum. I would like to keep a 5x4 1/5 bolt pattern. I could probably just run original Chevy spindles and brakes but I'd have to redrill the bolt pattern (if that is doable). Is there an easier/better solution keeping the spindles I have?

Those are 49-54 Chevy p***. car. You just need some backing plates/drums from someone doing a disc conversion.

And spindles. Speedway machines them for the MII discs.

Cool. Thanks...to keep the 5 x 4 1/2 bolt pattern is it feasible (safe) to redrill the original Chevy hubs and drums?

I used a similar steering arm on a 37 for many many miles no issues . If you do decide to keep the steering arm safety washers MUST be installed on all HEIM joints attached to steering linkages . There are specific size spacers between spindle and backing plates also . You may have a bearing adapter for the disc brakes that will need to be removed to allow you to reinstall the hub on drum brakes . I think 64 Hubs will give you roller bearings also vs. ball bearings on the earlier hubs .

First step is to pop the hub and rotor off and see how they put that hub on the Chevy spindle. As the guys said there are a couple of ways to do it. Machine the spindle for the MII bearing or slip on and adapter/spacer that lets you use the MII spindle and bearing on the stock Chevy spindle.

that trick only works on the 55 and later spindles
