Where can I get my Stewart Warner (2 5/8) 8,000 rpm converted to work without a sender, and what cost am I looking at?
Williamson's isn't fast or cheap BUT they their work is first class. At least it was for the clock they converted to 12 volt quartz for my '54 Ranch Wagon. FWIW the cost for the clock conversion was considerably less than other quotes I got. The owner kept in touch with me during the process. Even called me to tell me my credit card final payment was billed without deducting the initial deposit. It was corrected almost immediately but he wanted me to know in case I checked my account on line and saw the initial billing before the correcting credit posted.
In my experience, the tachometer itself can not be converted, short of all of it's internal parts being removed and replaced with modern components. The sender however, can be converted, but it's not cheap and easy.
I can't remember the name of the place (think its advertised on the net) but i checked the cost of converting a greenline SW to solid state-definitely a wake up call--around $275-300 to do it. I decided my old Sun worked just great.
Williamson's put the conversion electrics in the sending unit on my football tach for me. Hasn't missed a beat since I installed it several years ago. Great people to deal with.
Williamson's converted the Sun blue-line in my Comet over ten years ago. I've never had one problem with it.
Another vote for Williamson, I had 3 tachs redone and could not be happier. Cost is a relative thing, Williamson will do it right the first time. Pat
