I have a 51 Styleline Deluxe with a 216 with 3 on the tree and 6 volt system. Since my car isn’t a daily driver, I’m on the fence about converting to 12 volt. I was talking to a friend who asked me what I want/need the 12 volt for. I said radio. My friend said just use a 6 volt to 12 volt converter. Has anybody used these and would this work?

yeah. Or just go without. Or get a little boom box that you can recharge or replace batteries in, set it on the seat when you're driving. Or listen to your phone (some smart phones actually play music loud enough to hear when you're driving). Or fix the original 6v AM radio and use it.

    Lots of choices.

    Hello,

Well in this pandemic, it is not too smart to got to Target/Best Buy or elsewhere to see and hear those little bluetooth speakers. Amazon will have to do for your search. Since your car is not your daily driver or is it set up for a complete new-fangled stereo radio replacement, as the others have said or small/bluetooth powered speakers. Using your phone with music on it will obviously run down your phone, in case of emergencies.

It is your choice, but single mp3 players can store a ton of music and hook up via blue tooth or directly plugged into those speakers for a pretty good sound. The only batteries you will be wearing down will be with the music player and blue tooth speaker. No working on converting your old car, just buy the units, transfer your music to the player and turn on both with the bluetooth connection.

The sound will be almost as good as a built in system. But, it is portable so you can also use it in the garage when working there, or anywhere. The systems have been upgraded, but anything from JBL or Bose will work the best, IMHO and ears.

  5. I bought an Oontz Bluetooth speaker on Amazon for under a $100.00 bucks..was loud enough to hear music in my Sunliner with the top down on the highway...I will never hack another dash or throw a radio in the glove box again...I listen to whatever I want via amazon prime or Sirius app on my phone

I used one with my 1947 Ford coupe, with a 6 volt elect system. Very easy to install and works great. The one I bought cost $50.00. There are a lot of 6 volt to 12 volt converters listed on the internet to chose from.
