I'm looking ahead to the rear window for my phantom '40 Ford convertible. The stock Ford rear window, as I recall, was basically a gl***ed-in mail slot: ...but I'd like to see more to the rear. Some guys put in an all-plastic rear flap; I don't want to do that: Here's a chopped convert with a window that appears to be stock height, but a little wider: That's a step in the right direction, but I'd like a little more height too. Anybody have any advice regarding this type of window, like where to find them, larger-than-40 sizes, if any were used; any other intelligence would help??
I see no reason that a top shop ,( Do they even have such things any more?)could not make a rear plastic window that is whatever size you want and insert it in the top material by sewing it into the zippered flap.
I'm sure you're right, but a plastic window is what I DON'T want. To look at least fairly correct, I intend to use a gl*** window in a chrome frame similar to the stock window. The issue is that the stock window is very small, and offers very little rear vision via the mirror or looking over your shoulder. I'd like to use a larger window than stock, but I'm not much interested in fabricating the frame from scratch. The purpose of this post (guess I could have stated this more clearly) is to get suggestions about the availability of a chrome framed window, or an empty frame, in sizes larger than the stock '40 window.
I dont blame you for not wanting to build from scratch, so take a piece of stainless, cut it to any size you want and get a gl*** to fit
I used a back window from Lebaron Bonney in my 48 Olds 98. They have various sizes to choose from. TGhey market a very high quality product
Here is the link to LeBaron Bonney's on line catalog. The Ford rear window frames are on page 78. It looks like a 40 Ford ha s 6" x 20-15/16" frame, The 49-50 Ford looks to be the biggest frame at 9" x 26". http://www.lebaronbonney.com/catalogforweb.pdf
