Well... the shop I was working in moved up north so now I am back in the garage. As you can see not much space but it’s on a big rolling cart. Going to wheel it outside to work on it.

I just discovered this thread, and finished going through the 5 pages of your updates! I'm thoroughly amazed, and entertained watching the transformation! I've seen a number of these sedan to coupe swaps, but very few that impressed me like yours does!
Thanks for all the great posts and updates!

Hello family, I’m back, it’s been too long. I’m finally able to get back on the rod. Super excited to put in some more work. I have had to move the 33 around to a couple different friends shops, but now we are in a good location where I can knock out some more work. I hope you all have been well. 228BAC88-2251-4227-BDA4-33139D2E8683.jpeg 8EC074D1-48E2-4AD6-92C3-F8C28E199A71.jpeg Here she is in the new shop! The A pillars have been leaned back witch causes the flange I left on the cowl to be raised. With a little massaging I was able to get it straightened back out. I’ll get some more pictures and post the progress I have made. Cheers!

In the new shop I’m in I don’t have my tig welder water cooler set up yet so I’m only able to tac with the welder but it’s enough to get things rolling. The cowl I had to tac with the mig which I don’t like doing but I have to work with what I have for now. 3FB04FB1-7BCB-4B9C-855B-757C36059963.jpeg you can see through the middle I was able to turn the flange but when it comes to the corners they are two ply sheet metal and it’s curved so I had to pie cut it. Everyone does things differently but at the point where I’m at right now this makes the most sense. 351B06CF-C643-478E-A6E2-B648E8EF3335.jpeg I will have to go back in with some lead and fill some of the places that aren’t perfect but I enjoy doing it because it is period correct.

I ended up cutting this a pillar piece in half length wise because it tapers a bit.

windshield frame is unusable unfortunately. There is a lot of rot of the opposing side.

I decided the front windshield looked a little to big and the front of the roof looked a little too bulbous for me. So I took out all the pieces I had tacked in and cut the a pillar down another half inch and I like it a lot more.

these are the picture of the chop after I took another half inch out of it. It has a little more attitude now.

I ended up cutting the front support that holds the wood in because I couldn’t shut the door and the wood wouldn’t line up if I did. I just went in and did some relief cuts and moved it up. I love the look of the original wood in in the car. That’s it for now! I’ve just been busy buying little things I need. Trying to purchase all the original things I can. Was able to find a front window regulator knob and a couple original window handles. Bought one original outside door handle but still looking for the other side. I just love the history and the patina on these original parts. I am on the hunt for a original mohair bench seat with some nice patina. Any leads would be much appreciated. Thanks again for all the support!

Some sabbath day updates. A good friend helped us get the quarter windows shaped and tacked. Areas here and there need to be touched up but i think it will turn out nice. 584A456D-D58E-4487-B70D-A8F41155727D.jpeg FCAFB8E1-8CC6-49A5-9FC3-9D8342A39230.jpeg 5D96EEB6-494A-431B-91BC-DD702380015B.jpeg 905FB8A3-7112-4FEA-B2D4-29AD42D2A5CB.jpeg 4650AF77-DDC6-435A-8E9E-655962D7233A.jpeg 1A0AC9E1-AE82-4A0B-BECA-D1CAE8BAEA6D.jpeg D10BFBA4-05A7-4F26-862C-ADF4C286666A.jpeg 0F954BA1-163D-4BDA-9E09-809F27F4C37F.jpeg we pulled the rear roof corners off the old sedan top. Today I spent time also cutting the old wood the goes over the doors down to size to get them fitted and welded up the brackets that had to be adjusted from chopping it. Decided to mock up the hood and grill to get a better look at the overall flow. And spent all morning on the corner piece to the window but I think I will have to remake it. I like the idea of doing it the traditional way with pie cuts but might have to come up with another solution. 3559CB39-B827-4E41-B9C0-C00CC55BFF43.jpeg 12FB1EDA-BE78-4AFA-8C0A-928E2C3E7144.jpeg 61DFF3F8-9896-45C5-8DCE-1FE23C83C1F1.jpeg BA764FBC-3C52-469E-9E5C-1C33126BA3EF.jpeg

Well, I was not satisfied with the way the chop looked so I have cut all the tac welds out and took about an inch and a half out of the b pillar and cut the cowl open again. I wanted the windshield leaned back more so I cut the roof from window to window in front of the sun roof and the windshield. It took out a lot of the crown that I wasn’t satisfied with above the windshield so I took a lot of it out and it looks a lot more streamlined and ready for the salt.

back window looks a little more proportional. It will get a little bigger when I get it all tacked in.

This was a very frightening moment. I was sick to my stomach all morning debating if I wanted to take on the task of re chopping. The top was off at this point and there is no turning back.

This is where I cut and is overlapping probably over an inch.

This is where I’m at now. I feel pretty good about it. I like the rake the roofline gives and I think the windshield is about where I want it. I’m debating and contemplating cutting a linear line above the drip rail area and pulling up that rail to give the window a little less rake and more sight. Get it almost parallel with the bottom of the window. All while the roof is still raked. Best of both worlds. Trying to find the point where it’s low enough and the quarter window doesn’t look too small and goofy. That’s it for tonight!

  27. Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought it looked great before you cut it all back apart again. It's gonna look like 100 MPH sitting still! When my body man and I were talking about chopping mine, I wanted a 4" chop with the posts leaned. He said no so we agreed on a 3.5" chop without leaning the posts. Now I see why he didn't want to do the full-tilt-boogie chop job on my 5 window. Lotsa work! Love watching your progress. 34rodders Journal photo.jpg

full tilt boogie chop, I like it! Man that’s a beautiful 5 window you have though. You guys did a great job. That lighter color you went with has me thinking about going with something besides black. I’m liking it.

Been putting in more time on the 33 but it’s hard to tell. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get the look I want and how far to tilt the windshield back, how much rake I want, how high to move the drip rails. Do I want it chopped more. Lots of decisions that are tricky. I decided to take another quarter inch out of the b pillars and finally decided on the angle of the windshield. It was hard because I like the look of a windscreen that’s layer back quite a bit but I couldn’t lean them back too far or it puts more wedge into the roof, and the only way to counter that would be to lower the chop more. I would lower the chop more but with it being a 5 window you have the quarter window that starts to lols too small and goofy if it’s too low. If I were chopping a 3 window I would go lower because you don’t have to deal with the size of the extra window. I think I will do a 3 window 34 next :) that’s if I ever finish this car and the other 3 cars I want to do. Here are some progress photos.

so fun to be able to work with my dad on this car. We are in the thick of it here.

took the roof off and on a million times. Here we prepped the front edge to get it ready to tac back on.
