I know this is a little unorthodox to go from a 12 to 6 volt system but I would like to have a 6 volt system. I have to vehicles already with a 6 volt system so it is not like i can't jump off of one of my own vehicles if need be. I have read all the threads about how a 12volt is less maintenance and more reliable. I am also not running or intend to run many accessories. Auto meter gauges, headlights, tailights, and turn signals thats it. What do I need to do to convert?

  2. Please make life easy on yourself, stay with 12v. If your dead set on 6v, either use Runtz resistors to feed the 6v components.
Where I work, we sometimes say "Don't re-engineer a ________." I think it would be good advice for you.

you need everything that runs on electricity, and if the wire was chang3ed when they made it twelve volt, you may need bigger wire. sounds kinda silly though. as for jumping, you'll only be able to jump it at home, unless you tow one of your other cars around with you all the time

If you try to run 6v through 12v wires you are going to have a fire. Don't do it.

6 volt onewire alternator, JC Whitney.
6 volt battery, Sams club, Napa.
Heavier wiring throughout, you look up the sizes.
Heavier battery cables, the ones that are twice as thickcrosssection than regular 12 volt ones.
    6 volt light bulbs, Checker/Brakes plus/Walmart.
Remove the ballast resistor from the coil.
If you cant find a 6 volt starter(the wires and windings are heavier for carrying current, equation is I/ER, (or was it E/IR?, I forgot, look it up) be prepared to push start, standard ****** would be appropriate.
