Hi, i don't know much about mechanical drum brakes but i know that i would need to convert them to hydraulic. I have my eye on a nice axle at my local yard but it has mechanical breaks. I was wondering if it is possible to convert them and if so how. thanks Marlon
First off, they're brakes, not "breaks". Secondly, the make model and year of car that you're working on and the same info for the axle might help just a tad
Have you tried the tech archives ? Photo's of the axle would help. Good luck on your build sounds like fun.
If you search the tech archive all will become clear. It will tell you how to identify the axles and how to covert them to disk brakes along with many other useful tidbits.
This is a set I found someone converted. I might run them just for shits and giggles. I would recomend finding some f-100 front brakes if you go with drums. They are self energizing and balance out better if you run a late rear axle.
sorry for the delay, i am going to pick up the axle from the yard right now, than i will upload some photos
