First....welcome to the HAMB.........i would have to look at the car....trying to remember exactly what a 49 looks like........shaveing the rear outside door handles would make it look more like a 2 door.......if that is the look you are going for.......

heres the car.... hope the link works... i first wanted to do like a 5in or so chop but now im kinda like how can i just make it look cool so i can get it rolling & work on other things later, i planned on shaving all the door handles, i do have a 331 cad motor, but i also have access to a 472 cad so ill prob go that route, wide whites & chromies or caps. i havent seen any 4door cars fixed up that i remember & it alerady has a camero sub frame & whover did it did a killer job !

I like it. 4-doors are great for the kiddies to ride in. The Cozy Coupe in the background needs a hard chop and airbags though... :D

I've got a fo-do fiddy fo and love it. Love it even more when i can get it bagged and get rid of the 235 but for now its runs well and i enjoy just working on it... and if my dumb*** could finger out how to post pics i would. Good luck on it and enjoy, some of the most fun i have is figuring out what it is exactly i want to do.

I have been thinking about this too. I have seen 4door project cars in my price range but I always p*** them up looking for a 2dr. I still don't have a project. I may have to quit being so selective

Here's the one that got away.I was so close to owning this one, just wasn't meant to be.The best 4dr i've come across. There's also a nice black one that was at the Back to the Beach show.I'll have to look for the photo.

Nope, all 4 doors work and will continue to. I did have to create a brace that ran down the b-pillar and out into the floor to keep the b-pillar from wiggling though...still have to modify the rear doors' opening to open forward of the hip so I can run some teardrop skirts.

Maybe... I was looking for a 2-door 10 years ago and every junk one I found was 500-1000 more than a 4 door... after talking to a gent about his junk 51 bel-air he told me where this one was sitting and after a bit of wrangling with the old lady that owned it and wanted 2500.00 for it because that's what the blue-book said, I towed it home for 600.00.

Looking back on it it was a start, a cheap one at that. A good car to learn and continue learning on, making it into what I wanted. I didn't and don't really dig the 2dr vs 4dr, "which one is cool" conversation for the simple reason that you can take anything you have and with enough determination and courage and turn it into what you want. (consider Burt Munro) Just be encouraged, if you find a car no matter 2 or 4 door that you can do whatever you want to with it, it just takes time, planning and courage.

THere are a lot of fine 4 door cars out there. My next project will be a 4 door becuase they are cheep and readily available. I may get some flack from the "no MORE door" crowd but scew'm... I'm looking for a family car were I don't have to struggle just to get two kids in the back seat.

  22. Im glad this thread came up, I have been anti 4 door since I got into cars 14 years ago. I swore that I would never ever buy a 4 door, ever. Now I am negotiating a deal on a 54 Buick 4 door

Well 4 doors were very uncool when I grew up and I still have a hard time thinking of one in any other light. They cost just as much to fix up or restore and are generally worth a fraction of what a 2 door is when your done or ready to sell.
