Hi guys,

My name is Bob. I am into 50's and 60's retro cars and rat rod type stuff. I am currently working on a 55 Bel Air with a Mooneyes flavor. Recently, I saw Bo Huff's cool Model A sedan turned ******* hot rod in Ol Skool Rodz magazine (Issue 4). It has an awesome finned alum license frame you can see in the picture. Looks a lot like a big old Cal Custum valve cover with the wrap around fins and then of course cut out in the center for your plate. Anyone know where to find one of these????? Here is a link to my car if you are interested. 4.88 gears, 4 speed, white tuck and roll, Moon tach and wheel, torque thrusts and a cross ram dual 4 motor. Looked a lot more old school in black primer, but I had to blow my retirement fund on something (new red paint!!) http://public.fotki.com/redlinetoys THANKS!!

Nice car. Not my style, but nice work none the less.
Don't know if I have ever seen a finned license frame for sale, you could always cut up a finned valley cover though....

Don't worry, I want to build a ratty Model A Tudor next with wide whites, Radir Rims and either black primer or preferably just rust or WD-40 (HA!). A 392 Hemi, or more likely whatever I could get for free would likely power this one. I am SURE I'll have more fun with it. I am so used to just jumping on top of the 55 when I need parts off the top shelf and I have almost done it a couple times since painting. Too much stress... Thanks for the response!

  4. Good looking 55!........will it be on the road this year?

    Thanks,

I have it registered at Goodguys in Indy. Don't know if I will make it. Trying though. I'd also like to make the Indy Road Rockets Rumble, but looks like maybe next year. My wife has me painting kitchen cabinets for my son's school graduation party. Know what I mean???? Anyway, I sneak to the garage and bolt something back on at least once a day, sometimes twice...

That is a nice 55 for that style of build. Where do you live since you are planning on going to both Indy shows?

They actually have a SCHOOL that teaches you how to BUILD ****BOXES,,,, it's called ""OLD SKOOLZZZ RODZZZ"....

They have LINGO that only the ******** UNDERSTAND....

    for EXAMPLE....

    """It's ok to be GAY"""",

    means.

It's "OK" to run 15"s on your FENDERLESS HOT ROD,

The KEY to building the PERFECT "RAT ROD" is the LINGO that is SPOKEN when you DESCRIBE building it...

I'm writing a BOOK about this "KULTURE"

ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE FINNED LICENSE FRAME!?!?! I am having a hard time finding a cool frame that fits the car without going plain billet...

I've still never seen the magazine, but if you can post a picture of the frame, or post a link to a page that shows one like it, someone on here can help.

Hey, that looks just like Bob’s car if it was painted red. Let me reread this, it is Bob’s car painted red. Welcome aboard, car looks good. Do you have a hood for that thing?

I’m sure everyone here can keep you straight on that planned Model A sedan.

    Hey Bill!!!

Nice to hear from you. Yeah, it is "Bob's car". Finally, after almost 20 years (doesn't pay to get in a hurry, right.) See you this summer, I am sure!

And yeah, I do have the hood. Too busy right now putting wiring and gl*** and etc, etc, back in the car. If I am lucky, I'll have it together to cruise soon.

So since you know Bill I guess you are near Lafayette. My parents live in Lebanon. I'll be down this weekend for the Hoosier.

Beautiful work but your hospital white sanitary garage is too intimidating for me. I'd be fraid to rub up against he cabinets. Very nice. I wish I could be that sanitary. It will be a super car.

    Checked Obrien truckers. No luck.

Django, yeah south of Lafayette. Maybe we will run into each other sometime. I checked out the website. COOL LOGO!!

By the way, don't be intimidated by the cabinets. They are just plywood doors to cover up all my hoarded **** (haha). I just reroll them with paint when they get burned from the welder or splattered with rubbing compound.

If you don't have a scanner, someone here may scan the picture that shows the frame and upload it if you mentioned what page it's on.

    Django,

Is the "Hoosier" the roundy round race at Raceway Park? Or something I am not aware of?

I've seen 2 like that over the years. 1 was cheap chromed plastic and the other was fairly cheap looking casting. kinda like you'll see at autozone. Both were sold at swap meets & car shows. The bug-eye sprite style light and frame holder is a separate deal. Those come in a couple sizes and quality varies from not too bad to ****. For the frames, look for the guys at car shows or events that will add your name to frames. Haven't seen them for a while tho. They all seem to like the ones they can personalize now.

That's a neat piece. Sorry I can't suggest a supplier for one of them.

It's been an unusually busy day and it wasn't until now that I was able to take a look at the picture of the frame.

I appreciate the positive comment about the Web site. When I started it back in the summer of 1996, who would have thought that over the following eight years it would grow to be over a hundred different pages with a total of about 8,000 links, and be visited every month by people all over the world using 150,000 different computers?

The Hoosier Swap Meet, one in the Spring, which is pretty good, and the one in the fall that you can't really see it all in one day. At the Marion County Fairgrounds. You've really never heard of it?

How south of Lafayette are you? Still Tippecanoe (sp?) county?

Looks like you'll be heading to NAPA thanks to the info from Kustom7777.

Django, he's Lafayette area or close enough.

The Spring Hoosier Swap Meet, isn't that only a Saturday deal now days? I haven't gone in a few years. Instead I'll be doing some garage time and then hitting the local Hooters Cruise-In.
Unless my wife changed my plans.

I used to work in Romney, IN south of Lafayette. If he lives there it is quite possible that he is out of touch with the outside world. [IMG]

I may try to make it over there to Indy this weekend. I don't know why, I am broke.

I never hear of Romney, or West Point or Odell (HA!)

I know the Hoosier you are talking of, just didn't connect the wires upstairs. I used to go when it was held inside of the Indy 500 track. Haven't been since. I'm in Lafayette fairly close to the mall. If you are going to be in town sometime, drop me an email and maybe we can meet. Liked the '36 on your website!!!

THANKS for the info on the license frame. I will keep an eye open for one, or perhaps look for something cooler. This seems like an area where there should be better availability of something. Maybe I'll make something. Doesn't help that our plates are ugly green with purplish lettering!
