    Hello,

Ever had something stuck in your head? As if someone is watching your every move or every time you are talking to someone, look behind you? It is usually after watching a slasher movie or one of those dark mystery movies, as you walk to the rest of the house to get a drink of water and notice something amiss.

But at a dragstrip? with 10000 people all around you? Bones Balogh and John Mazmanian looking down on Don Garlits making some comments to an announcer… a ghostly image created by digital process…

It is not like taking old 35mm film photographs and moving your rewinder back one frame for a double exposure shot (a hit or miss on most accounts). But a digital space between connecting frames allows some interesting photos… YRMV

A 57 year old friend still waiting for the chance to do something, again… It has remained clean as a whistle ever since the digital camera age hit us like a brick in the head.

  4. Self portrait of Tom Davison- look close at the bumper- obviously not my work, all credit to Tom. Fresh, raw from a thread out of LSRU 2023. His stuff is always worth the time. 12A15548-2D37-45F3-B45D-392B070B779E.jpeg

  5. The original criteria is for a picture I have taken and I find cool, so I will post this picture of a picture from the Walter P Chrysler museum that I find cool and hope to recreate in my shop. 1956F068-EFA2-4228-B45D-420B91D201E0.jpeg

  6. Took this one by mistake while fumbling around for my phone. Thought it turned out pretty neat.

    Hello,

Photos in photography is a learned technique. Give a camera to three kids and one will come back with some outstanding photos, while the others will showcase what they saw, it gets down to composition and style. The idea of composition and style works in all different forms in life. Clothes, the way you present yourself to the world and to your friends. When one becomes involved in the world of work, then of course, it is how your present yourself to others in the same field.

My wife had a “protective” life, as her dad was a controlling person that thought the world revolved around him. But, my wife and her sister just absorbed the family dynamics and let it flow until the breaking point. The breaking point emphasized with slamming doors and eventually marrying to get out of the house. My wife was a little more reserved. She did her thing and when it was her time to slam the doors, she left home to live in a small apartment with her friend.

In looking at some old photos from the growing up days, she had a keen eye, but photography was not her thing. The camera was handed to her and she made a few shots and gave the camera back to her mom. No big deal, we have all done that. The photos are just nice family photos. She did take some nice photos with her Brown box Brownie camera.

When we met, she wasn’t taking any photos. But, since I had two 35mm film cameras, one for color slides and the other for home brewed 35mm black and white films, it was a new direction. At first, I gave her a camera when we were out and about in the “courting stage.” (Ha! Old school for sure) if we were in a place like Haight Asbury in San Francisco, her eye was different than mine and so when she brought out the other 35mm camera, her photos were pretty good. It was the composition of the subject that made them stand out. Once the focus and camera settings were dialed in, it was composition that took over for a good shot.

Over time together and with our blended families, her photos ranged from point and shoot film cameras, to 35mm cameras and then the digital age before phone cameras. The eye for a good shot had good beginnings, lay dormant for a while and then with high quality phone camera of her Iphones, her photos were back place.

    Note:
It was not an overnight thing, but a slow process of observing, seeing the obstructions in composition of a good photograph and identifying a thousand photos wherever we went on our long road trips since 1966. She surprised me with this photo of me and the red El Camino at our mom’s Westside of Long Beach house after we got married.

It was not a planned photo, but a point and shoot the moment. What was I doing on the concrete leaning against the garage door? Well, it was Summer and the sun was doing its thing… The “…Warmth of The Sun…” and all things that go along with that implication. We had just eaten a fabulous meal with our mom and it was one of those things to relax, afterwards. The warm sun was calling for us…

It was and still is one of the best photos around, in our collection. I converted it to digital images and have not attempted to change or modify the color or composition. We were married then and just spent the whole day with my mom. So, we were taking some time off from the barrage of local lore from the “old mom’s tales…and her constant advice.” Ha!

During our older granddaughter visiting days, we saw a cool 57 Chevy in my rear view mirror coming up in the passenger side lane. All I had to do was to give her the digital camera, and she waited for the right moment to snap a cool action photo. Through the outside rear view mirror, no less.

But, the topper is/was the more we see old hot rods and customs, the faster she is with my digital camera, only if I prep her for the moment of the photo. If she uses her Iphone camera, it takes a while to punch in the camera app, get the right prospective with the phone lens, find the button and shoot. By then, a lot of times, the moment is lost. Or I have to do a lot of adjustments in my driving.

On another day out for a cool drive to our granddaughter’s house to drop off some school stuff and presents. Going 55+mph is hard to adjust to the overall photo with the subject… a cool 55 Chevy still in focus. “OBJECTS DID APPEAR TO BE CLOSER…”

This one was fairly easy to shoot, but still required some adjustment for composition and focus. I did not have to say anything for prepping. Remained in the same lane going the same speed. She just took the digital camera and shot what she thought was the good composition, with the subject was already in place, a cool hot rod sedan.
    Thank you...
