Any idea what kind of top that is on that 61 Impala. I dont think I have ever seen one like that, must be an aftermarket or dealer option.

Love those little Valentine diner buildings. Here's the same model in Winslow, Arizona.

Jalopy Junkie, you come up these great Americana photos. What are your sources? Most look unpublished.

Where did you get this picture? My jaw dropped when I saw it. This was my best friend's dad. It's the Butler Shell Service in Butler IN. He passed away about 30 years ago. All of my old Ford parts books from the 30s came out of that station when the family sold it. If that building could talk you wouldn't believe the stories it could tell. We thought that we got away with a lot but he knew everything we did.

The building is still there but it's been converted to a Clark convienience store and gas station.

A friend of mine emailed me a bunch of old gas station photos a while back and it was in that batch of pics.Although I dont know the man I know the gas station,I spent my whole youth in the late 60's and early 70's in places that looked just like that one,I enjoyed picking apart all the little details in the background,I'd guess that to be around 1967-1970??

I'll ask Craig. Hank passed away from cancer in 1971 but the Pepsi machine looks late 60s. He's Hanks 3rd son of 6. His mom took the picture. Since you like old gas stations here is a picture Craig just sent me of the Sunoco on the other end of town in 1957. It is also still there but not a Sunoco anymore and the bays are closed up to make a convience store. Notice the proprietor Bob Meyers filling up the 1957 Chevy 210 2 door police car. He is still with us but his brother Darrell, filling up the '52 Chevy passed away from cancer in the mid '60s. I don't know who the cop was. I was 9 when this picture was taken and wasn't too involved with police yet. LOL I lived a block from this station.

    Hi Tom & JJ,

I PM'd JJ about the Shell Station photo. This was pulled off my pbase page, no problem, & is a crop of the original that is faded and aged; I scanned it & photoshop'd. On the back, mom noted that it was taken in 1966, it is a wonder we lived through this year.

This is how I remember dad, I wish I had the same photo of Tom's dad, Carl, working in his bicycle shop. BTW, dad's first name was Milton, we don't know where "Hank" came from, but that is how everyone in Butler knew him. It is amazing that a small town, 2,500, supported 6 gas stations & not one of them sold diesel for the trucks that ran US6.

    Hi Paul,

Welcome aboard. When you have a few days read this whole thread. There are some amazing photos here.

We got semi flooded during the storm this past week and had about 6" of water in the basement. It was more like a foot outside the patio doors. Anderson makes good doors. That means the whole east end of my property was under water that just came across the field. Probably 6-8' deep in the lowest area to get to my basement walk out. There is no creek or ditch by my house. Anyway I had to sort and throw away a lot of stuff including a truck load of soaked old car magazines. I think of how many times I have stored and moved that stuff just to end up pitching it a dumpster.

The good part is I found some old photos that I have to scan and get posted to this thread. Some are drying and others excaped.

Sunkist and Moonkist were the first T-Buckets I remember seeing at the Nats East held in Timonium, MD. They were just the coolest things I'd ever seen and they always ran as a pair!!!

I'm not big on vans but that green thing is one really unique van. Some one did a great job there.
