Been here many times. Those are still there. Much of the area was built by the C.C.C. and hasn't changed much since then. Drive through there and it will look exactly like this (in the fall).

Well, the polls have changed.

 

From 1952: Here's the caption that ran with this shot of downtown Des Moines in November, 1952: "A necklace of light stretches east on both sides of Locust Street as new 1,000-candlepower lights illuminate the downtown street. This view is looking east from Fifteenth Street."
