This was found back in the mid - late 80's (I think?) on a farm in southern Michigan. Wasn't quite a barn find because it was outside the barn. I remember seeing it on a trailer for sale at a small local swap meet at the time. I think that the guy sold it in the as-found condition to Joe Bortz.

edit: found a link to the restoration of the car http://www.tbirdsquare.com/

Here's a couple of shots of it that I took yesterday at the Meadowbrook Concours.

Cool pic Harms! My grandpa told me stories about logging in the redwoods with a steam donkey, those were real men doing things that folks today wouldn't even consider! Some of the stories he told (two men topping trees with a giant double ended chainsaw 100 feet off the ground on springboards) would scare the shit out of these X-treme punks I see on television nowadays:)

There were 3 All Weather Drive-ins on Long Island, I believe that they were all owned by the same company.

This is Johnny's All Weather Drive-in at 1001 Sunrise Hwy. in Copiague, operating from '57 - '84.
It was one of the largest Drive-in Theaters with parking spaces for 2,500 cars and indoor seating for 1,200. There was a playground, a cafeteria, and a restaurant with full dinners. A shuttle train took customers from their cars to the various areas, on the 28 acre lot.
It was by the roller & ice skating rinks just east of rt. 110. This is where the picture is from, I had taken it shortly before it closed.

The next was the Smithtown All Weather Drive-in up on rt. 25 in Nesconset. It was operational from '61 - '85.

The last, The Sunrise All Weather Drive-in was about 20 miles east of Johnny's at 600 Sunrise Hwy. in Patchogue. It was operational from '65 - '86.

We always went to The Valley Stream Drive-in located at the Nassau - Queens border, right next to Green Acres Mall. As a teen we would park in the back lot of the mall and watch the movies over the fence for free!

I coulda swore there was one in Westbury......I used to go the the 110 Drivein which was right on 110 and the L.I.E. Me and my buddy, Linwood, would ride our bicycles down the expressway (before it was open to traffic) and sneak under the fence and watch the movie from the snack bar. Of course once I started to drive, me and my high school sweetheart would always park WAY in the back!!......ah the good ol days....I left NY and Long Island back in 1973 and havent been back since........

  26. No, it's the one that was down in Lindenhurst, LI, NY. I believe, it's just as I recall it..

    I stand corrected.

  27. There was also one on the North Shore in Rocky Point.

There was a Drive-in located in Westbury on Brush Hollow Road, that opened in '53 and closed about 10 years ago. It's closing marked the end of an era, as it was the last Drive-in on Long Island.
It was not an All Weather Drive-in though, the All Weather Drive-in's offered the option of being able to watch the picture inside if the weather was inclement.
