hanginlow - where'd you get those pics? I've only ever seen one more like them, another shot of the '34 on an angle on the dune. Those shots were taken about ten minutes north of my house!

My 2 yo grandson, son-in-law and daughter reacting to the first time they heard a Top Fueler crack the throttle in the pits. It was Grubnic's car in the morning at Bristol, TN. After the initial shock, all was cool and we have some new drag fans; especially little Jeffrey, who always insists on wearing a hot rod shirt!

my neighbor was going thru old family photos and thought I would like to see them, sure like to see them up close to see how they built the 4- wheel drive and duel wheels.

I'm sure they weren't 4WDs, just cut down A's and '34s. As long as you keep moving, a two wheel drive car with a high floatation tire will do okay on the dunes. I'm sure they didn't venture up "test hill" back then, though.

A few of the early Mac Woods "Dune Scooters" still exist up in their museum (the company is still around, and eventually went to Jeeps and now custom-built Ford trucks). I plan to venture up there sometime soon and get some pictures.

PS Ever seen a "Sleeping Bear Dunesmobile"? Positraction and soft tires.
