Thanks for posting this. I am a 27 year old hot rodder. I was not around for the "good old days." The good old days for me was the 80's and there really wasnt much worth remembering going on those days. These pictures talk to me and serve as an insight into the people who made what I love possible. Really cool post!!!!
Old Skool, I am delighted to share my Dad's life with you. You and those like with you this incredible attitude are just what we need to keep this era and appreciation alive!!!!! Yes, I am so lucky to be raised by my mom & dad and no doubt I have "it" in my blood! Keep it alive!!!!! Give 'em hell!
Damn, now that is one hell of a nice looking car. I love that tiny little pinstripe flame by the exhaust tip too, that is cool. Thanks for sharing these great photos.
Thank You,for sharing these wonderful pictures of "hot rodding,as it really was". If you can,add a tag of "history",so the thread will be easier for newcomers to the forum to find in the future, since it sets such a fine example of what the HAMB is all about.
Greaser, thanks for the nice post and you are more than welcome. I am with you on that particular picture....just damn fresh and like "well, what are we doing standing around...let's get this thing goin'!"
I keep coming in from the garage to look at these pic's. I think your Dads 5 window is my new favorite. Thanks for posting these.
aha.... i started readin some of the other posts and the story started sounding familar. i saw the one you built for pops in a magazine i keep where i do most of my reading. too bad they couldnt have done a bigger spread and thrown in some of these photos with your car. thanks for puttin those pictures up. there is something about the way "those guys" used to build cars. i am 26yo and have been into this for a little while. i get quiet and listen to as much as i can when old timers talk about how they used to build cars. they talk about it first person. "we used to.....". me and my wrecking crew always say "those guys". "those guys" did it like this, "those guys" used this part, "those guys" useta..... i always enjoy lookin at pictures of "those guys".
that channeled 5 W is great, as everyone else has said, thanks so much for posting them. I scroll through so much crap on here, its refreshing to see a quality post. Anymore???
I would say that if these pictures "move ya" then you and the wrecking crew are some of "those guys"!!!!!
Yes, the old photos are fantastic, but what really hit a cord with me was the creation of you're Dad's dream car for the family! (You're Dad would be very proud!)
Thanks, man. I will have to go through the scrapbook one more time. These pics (and others that I posted about Muncie Dragway in the past few days on the "Drag CARS in Motion thread) were actually given to me by the Hot Rod Deluxe guys who took the scrapbook apart for me and reconstructed it for me. They provided these to me in a DVD, but the images were (until the last few days) all humongous. I will go back and see if there are additional ones. I have included one other pic here...of my dad's driver when the dragstrip opened in 1959....his way of affordable advertising!!!!! If I am to build another car (with and by others of course given my weak talent), it would be the chanelled Deuce if I can afford the steel body. Knowing my dad, that thing no doubt screamed in its day.
thanks ebert!!!! havin grown up in muncie and bein at the track almost every weekend [ as i got older on wednsdays also] its neat to see these pictures. as ive told ya before my grandfather was a founding member of the Muncie Chariots. i have several pictures from him and ill have em among others on display at the Motorama here in indy in two weeks. i really hope to hear from ya soon and swap stories and pictures. thanks again for the pictures. p.s. was the indoor pictures at the Muncie Fairgrounds? if soo i thin that was a Muncie Chariot show.....very cool
Correction...must have been around 64 or 65 --given that we were giving away a Mustang...see below. I am in the Mustang with the white baseball helmet...should have been picking up trash!!!!
Here is one from the 40 shoot at Muncie...my Dad had an original Rod Benders club decal in the scrapbook and one of my artist buddies found a distressed leather coat and hand painted the logo on the jacket for me...from the actual logo!!!
Gassed, Yes! Those shots WERE from the Muncie Fairgrounds!!!! I, too, look forward to getting caught up with you.....next week!!!!
Thanks for the "old time" post!----Brings back a lot of early "memories"--My son used to help me also when building my 32 roadster 1962-1968. Sounds like you & my son are same age now,---50!!---Am I correct???????------------Don
Deuce Daddy Don, You are correct SIR! Hit the big 50 this past year! Your son is so lucky to have you and those memories....I miss my Dad everyday and cannot imagine how much fun we would be having with the old stuff if he were still here! I lost my Dad when he was only 59...Dad got brain cancer when he was only 52....he still had the hammer down! Thanks to Ryan for allowing me to share his life with all of the you....this makes me very proud.
Man, I do not want to touch that one with a ten foot pole!!!!! Personally, I love 'em both!!!!!! I have never owned a Deuce, but the reception that I have received from the great guys on the HAMB related to the chopped and channeled car....I gotta go rob a bank and build it!!!! One of my best friends built the Hop Up deuce....what a car!
Thanks for one of the best threads here in a long time. The pic of all the club members is priceless. I hear what you are saying about missing your dad. My dad and I did just about all there is to do with cars together. My dad has been gone 8 years. I had him around longer than you had your dad, but I still miss him every day. Thanks for sharing your memories. Made me reflect on some of my own. Today is a good day.
Exceptional post, Ebert!!! Most impressive is the 40 you built as a tribute to your pops. I am certain you must feel an unreal amount of pride. Do you get to Muncie much anymore? As a member of the Midwest Gasser Association, I plan to run there for the first time this summer. Hope you can attend. Looks to me like you need to join our group.
Bobwop, Thanks for the nice note....go for it at Muncie!!! Yep...I am so proud of my Dad! And yes, I would be HONORED to be a part of your group! Just let me know how I can join!
