I have seen this pic before and Tom Dunlap of Anderson is in there somewhere. I'll have to have him show me which one. I don't recognise him. Tom has had a number of nice cars and is building a '50 Ford convert with 4.6 Ford motor and a 5 speed.
Have a long look at the guys in the Rod benders, Notice that they are all children? I have a picture of a group of fellow members of my old Rod Club in New Zealand(about 34 years ago) and looking at it today all I can see are a bunch of long haired kids. When I read on here how guys describe themselves as young at 25-28 I gotta luagh,I was married with kids at 21.. Makes you wonder where the years went.. The picture of the group by the coupe is great, especially the nice striping on the cowl, and the guy with New club Tee shirt on,must have been the first off the press.
i really enjoyed the pics. the cars are great! but what i really like is the admiration you have for your father.i just hope when im gone that my son will share my life with you, because if he does then ive done my job right.thank you ken
WHAT A COUPE! I love the drift wood, sand and sea shells treatment. Beach Boys inspired??? I think so. ..and he's just wearing a T-Shirt when there is snow on the ground because if you wore a coat, you wouldn't be representing your club!!! Had to let the camera guy see he's a Rod Bender!
Those pictures look like they could be out of my scrap book or I could be in one of them. I was around then but neither of my boys got onto cars and have an intrest. Nice to see young guys following in their dads foot steps, I wish mine would have. Great pictures, thanks.
Terra, Being the father of four boys, I realize that they each have their own interests and I respect that of course. The most important thing (I sound like Dr. Phil!) is to have a relationship with them as I hope you do. You should post YOUR scrapbook pictures to this thread!!!! We can keep it going!!!!!!! Best, Eric
Breeder, Next to KIRK! I know of no better avatar!!! Can't believe that I have gone to Hunnert for all but the first year and I have not bought you a beer or twelve! Best, E
Royal, I was going to post it in your BITCHIN Drag Cars in Motion thread, but I felt like I bogged it down with my previous posts about my Dad and Muncie Dragway......it really was a REAL hot rod!
I thought you might like to know (at least maybe the Michigan rodders) that channeled '33 5-window was built by Oliver Hines in the '50's. It has an early Cad motor with a hydro, Chevy fenders and a Brewster grille. I was very fortunate to meet Mr. Hines in the early '80's, he was still driving this car, I think it was copper colored at the time. The last time I saw the car was 10 or so years ago and it was green, his son restored it and as far as I know still has it. A very beautiful car, excellent design and craftsmanship. Mr. Hines was from the Charlotte, MI area. Does anybody have any recent pics of it?
Keep up the good work....it would also be great to see others post from family scrapbooks....killer thread.
Coupeman, I guess I am confused by your post....did Mr. Hines buy it out of Muncie and then finished it? I would assume so as it looks pretty primitive from the picture with the Rod Benders and I cannot imagine that those guys would buy a finished car...... Thanks! E
