So my other thread got lost... hmmmm... well I'm still waiting to hear from Choprods on one and there is another down near Atlanta, actually in Valley Alabama, right on 85 on the GA/AL border, is there anyone that could check it out for me?

They're old Internationals... 57-60 are the ones I'm digging...

A buddy and I were at a sale this weekend and saw one of those. Couldn't get over how ugly they are, think it sold for 200 bucks or something. Now I see these and think damn....................they're still ugly. First ones not too bad though.

  6. I say build the ugly fawker! It'll keep all the attention away from the ugly late 50s Fords :D
Actually these are probably the best looking IH's out there IMO. But given the lineage, there's not too much to work with. Not know as beauty queens, that's for sure.

  7. Not ugly ! Different ! Ugly Is a 400 lbs women in too small of sweat pants with buck teeth and warts...:D Louver Dude

As long as it's done right, there no such thing as ugly in this hobby. Back in the day the old dude's say they would have never been caught dead in that, but now things are different.

There was a 57 Golden Aniversary listed for sale back in late January or February. It was either in the HAMB classifieds, or else it was on ebay and someone posted a link to it here, on the HAMB. I can't remember which, but I know I saw it somewhere on the HAMB. I'm pretty sure that it was in a junkyard in Nebraska. It looked good in the pictures and was pretty complete too, right down to the hubcaps, if I remember right. Course it's probably sold by now, but you never know...

  10. Those were uncommon even when new. I've got a 57 Dodge and I seldom see another. Dodge had about 8% of the US pickup truck market in 1957. International had something less than half of that.

I agree they look custom as is. The copper one, if it were lowered would look sweet. I don't think I have ever seen one in person (or maybe at all).

I'm with ya, zman. The ones with the quad headlights and the eggcrate grille have the most (or at least the easiest) potential in my mind. (Like the 'Bama one.) The others look like the designers were just trying a little too hard... but with a little massaging of the sheet metal.... hmmmm.....

    The 2-tone works well, too...

i don't like em they kinda remind me of how wierd studes went into the mid 50's.I just think the proportions are all wrong and theres too much going on there from a semi rounded stape to a more angular shape,i think they should be one or the other and they ain't.Thats why i like Ford /Chevy as thier stylists moved the shape progresivley forward so much sop that tou kinda didnt know when they went from a roundy shape to a squary shape if you get my drift. Those in the photos just look all wrong to me...........Marq

  17. There was an artist rendition of one a while back in Custom Rodder I think.
    It was kill.
Was in the back of the mag.
    Green with schoolbus yellow wheels.
One just sold here for about $1500,rustfree too.
The hoods on em are kewl, they open three ways!
I measured it up for clipping it,basically same as a 55-59 chev and 53-56 ford.
    Volare clip will work perfect......Shiny

With all the love - hate things about the style, I think you'd do better to get one with most of the restoration costs already done for much less than it would cost to do it. I would not rescue a basket case for this model.

  19. I dunno... I like 'em. When it comes to trucks, customs are always Fords and Chevys.... but that thing is a hell of a lot better looking then a Dodge of the same year. :)

International Harvester a killer custom? You bet!
Half the fun of of customizing is turning the sow's ear into the silk purse.
    Well, a nylon one, anyway.

I was looking an old IH truck just the other day.
Same year as you posted. Ugly and cool at the same time.
And of course I started thinking...
Smooth it here, swap this out, add this, etc, etc.

I took one of your photos and did a little quick and dirty PhotoSuite work: Chop the top three inches or so, ditch the chrome trim,
shave the door handles, smooth out the front edge of the hood.

For a grille I used a 1950 or so Dodge - simple so as not to overpower the truck. I just smoothed the stock bumper for the pic, but I think I would use something else that wrapped around the fenders, most any one from an early fifties car would do. What do you think?

    Thats way cool stuff,

  30. Those photochops look pretty good. I wonder what it would look like with the headlights turned upside down? I just never liked the look of cars/trucks with signals above the lights (although that IH looks better than most because of the one piece bezel).
