Any idea on what this came off of?

 

It's quite a Looker...it looks as if it may have lined up with a grille shell with a rib carrying that center rib forward...
I just went through the whole Thread and came up dry thinking there might have been a duplicate but I will so some research, it has an early 30s swoop about it...



Any Hamb detectives have any inklings of it's OEM heritage?...maybe Dodge...7 out of 10 things we research and up being just that...

Joking aside this is a tough one...

It’s beautiful for sure, I’ve researched all I know what to look for. I couldn’t find anything, I was hoping the community here might have some answers... this is a tough one.

 

I recently installed this. She's somewhat Plain Jane as far as these winged goddess ornaments go, but I like her better than my old motometer.

No idea what it's off of--seller said Pontiac, but I have my doubts. Found a few badly cast knockoffs doing an image search, but no definative ID. Anyone? Might not even be off a car, for all I know. It's heavy for its size and chomed, which probably rules out an old bowling trophy.

 

I continued a pretty extensive web search, that included a huge Flickr collection...only hits were the post I shared here and I can't recall where I found it...Ebay for instance doesn't archive material anymore...I generally report the OEM source if it's there but doubt this cap mentioned one...I will keep my eyes open for one...especially if it's for sale...fingers crossed...again I'd peg its period to be mid 20s to mid 30's...the other possibility is a Fire Truck as they had a tendency to be quite ornate...

One of the reasons it's so nice apart from the detail is its low profile and not too loud so to speak...

 

Very fitting on the renaissance from the weeds special...Your absolutely right about Trophies, being these ornaments having a stud and nut makes them quite universal...and don't forget the older ones weren't plastic I suspect...I am due for a visit to the Patents to search out a few more interesting Caps and Ornaments...I'll keep my eyes peeled...

Were there any patent #s on it that you noted?

Hamber @TERPU's Banger powered Tub being put through the motions sporting an Isky Cap on a parted out pair of motometer wings...certainly a notable cap from an Icon of Hotrod...100 Years Old recently I believe...

@continentaljohn Look about 6 posts before yours. @ClarkH posted one like yours. Just looking at the quality of the castings, I believe that his is original and yours is a recast. Your lady also appears to have had a few “enhancements”. That’s all I got.

She is an Elegant Nose Art...
A patent of that may be back in the Thread somewhere...The Art is as beautiful as the real deal...the Aftermarket was pretty active supplying the masses through the many avenues such as Dealers and Hotrod suppliers...

 

The 1928 Chrysler's radiator caps had no feathers on the inside of the wings, 1924 - 27 had the feathers on both side of the wings. I have both a 1926 and a 1928 Chrysler, 1929s were a different style.

How 'bout this Simple almost hidden in plain sight 37 Ford truck at Hershey last week with a V8 60 for power....

 

37 Ford Pickups are a pretty unique bird in the 30s Lineup...it's interesting how that cap is part of the Trimline...is that V8 logo a special edition for 37? They did do many things with the V8 crest for several years from 34...I fullsized and saw you mentioned it. Was it the first year for V8-60?

Its actually a spinoff of the Logo ran on the Miller Fords in 1935...

...31 Chevrolet Radiator Caps seem only available used and not very cheap...There was a Hamber sharing Images here and he collects caps...Maybe put an Want ad in the wanted section...I'll look when I have a moment to see if I remember who it is

There's one on Ebay its at 375 bucks but I believe that's a dream price especially in the condition its in...

I seen one at the last swapmeet for 40 bucks and it was really nice. So they are around in fact I seen a few of them last week

...The Schumacher Roadster Hamber @alsancle rebuilt is beyond out of this world and still around...nice barnfind eh!!

Not sure what the Cap is but it had a presence but doesn't overwhelm the beast at all...

Doing some snooping it may be a cap of a Minerva...
