I drove by the McPherson College today in McPherson, Kansas where they have an automotive restoration school and saw this old beater in the student parking lot. Some guy probably has alot of fun with it. This is the school where Jay Leno underwrites 2 scholarships each year. Small in size, big in quality.

Can you imagine how pissed the instructors might be? This school goes the extra mile to teach auto restoration correctly and they work on alot of full classics as well as a few Model T and Model A's. Probably not the kind of advertisement they want but hopefully they have a good sense of humor.

Ok, while I have rode motorcycles on occasion, I am far from being what I would consider an experienced rider. I've got nothing against bikes. That being said, tell me this. What makes this contraption any more of a death trap than most bikes out there?

No windshield...hmm how many choppers do you see with windshields?

    No seatbelts...neither do bikes

yeah, I know you can dump a bike in some situations, but sometimes there isn't anything you can do to avoid an accident.

I doubt this thing is going to get up much speed anyway.

People are quick to call something like this a death trap when they don't know where or how its being driven. We don't know how the brakes perform or anything. Anything can be a death trap in careless hands. A deathtrap to me would be a car with severely worn suspension, steering, bearings. Badly worn/adjusted/leaking/non existent brakes. Fuel leaks, worn out/brittle ancient tires and things like that.

  14. In your last paragraph you described the car in the picture.

  15. You forgot to mention getting brained by the battery then burnt with the acid in a collision!

    I still love it though.

I think EVERYONE should learn to drive in a car like that. Then the won't whine like little gurls when some inane option on their brand new Lexamaltaoptironoedgafob GSRVXLSti performance sedan doesn't work right. (OOOH my ballsack warmer isn't working.... call the dealer)

Maybe there's a story behind this jalopy. Maybe it was the result of a dare or a bet. Or maybe it's a real needy student who scraped together everything he could to go to this school. Probably runs a paper route in this thing early mornings before school for lunch money.

I believe Model T's use the transmission for a brake instead of mechanical brake rods.

The challenge was to build a buckboard. The hard part was that was also the budget....................

Must be a cool barn find. IT all looks aged together, old wood, rust bleading from screws in wood. I dont think its a recent build. It might even be one of Jays rides.
