Im familiar with sentimental journey, i took a tour of the plane about 10-12 years ago in victoria here. it was accompanied by a spanish built he-111, that from what i hear crashed and burned a few years later. In my brother in law's logbook, he has 2 hours in a 17 between vancouver and calgary. and many hours in dc-3's from a 2 year stint at buffalo airways, where he was a ground worker. He got to go on morning hops and take the controls once and awhile.
I took a ride in a B-17 back in 2007. The coolest thing ever! Here's a picture of me with my head out the hatch while it's flying. The picture of the tail is also with my head out. If you look to the left of the tail you can see the 3 blimp hangars at Moffett field where we took off. Gives you new respect for what our service people did for us back in WWII.
I was stationed at Olathe in the early 50's with the USMC flying Douglas Sky Raider AD-5's. It was hot and dusty in the summer and cold and windy in the winter. We finally were sent to MCAS El Toro thank goodness. But it was a fun neighborhood and wonderful people. Normbc9
Normbc9- Those firefighting shots are amazing! I really dig Skyraiders! Hotrd32- great photos...had to to a double take on Sentimental Journey...realized it's a shot of their show trailer. Love the P-51...never flew in one...got to sit in Reg Urschler's "Gunfighter" once though! HuskyV8- love those shots out the top hatch! Yutan Flash- I had the opportunity to take a tour of the B-29 "Fifi" as well as the B-24 "Diamond Lil" about 9 years ago at Cedar Rapids Airport. Very cool planes!
