It wasn't a build, but I had to fix the 34ish Buick that Elizabeth McGovern, Sean Penn, and Nicolas Cage were driving in Racing With the Moon. The points were closed and the float was sticking, I had to work hard to drag it out while looking down Elizabeth's blouse!!!

Finally they impressed on me how much the meter running was costing....

This is up there with some of my weird builds. Removable hard top, 302, AOD, 4-link 8" Ford rear, Mustg II frt susp, Classic Instruments. Titled as 1936 Special Construction...smog exempt. This chassis has a 120" wheelbase. 17 feet bumper to bumper.

not the most traditional car but i built this on the cheap and it was like a big go kart. the only thing i bought for it were the tires, gauges , oil etc. evertthing else was cast off of i fabricated.

It took me 20 years to figure out, but the best part of this build was truck four speed and worm-gear rear axle-no more broken axle shafts.

  9. I see a number of folks apologizing that their build isn't as cool as... Doesn't matter. If you built it yourself you rock!!! To many folks miss out on the fun of building it themselves these days.

I built this out of a pile of parts and some imagination. I had just been laid off, had no clue what to do, and this sorted it out for me. Like a Fool I traded for something better, I thought. Hindsight is 20/20. While I have built alot of cars some worth alot more wih alot cooler stuff, this one had soul for sure and just fell together out of scraps and freebies. The frame, body, electrical, and rims were all going to be thrown away by different people. Hell the Y-block was a runner out of another project I got for $200.00. I guess it knew I needed a distraction and provided hours of free therapy. Anybody seen it running around Reno? I'd probably buy it back if it was even close to the same car, I don't have many regrets. But trading this one might qualify as a do over for me.

I love and respect Chevy2inreno's post and all of the kids, but how could one not appreciate the vision and "coolness" of a young Dean Lowe and what he created, raced, and raced and raced! He was way ahead of his time! A legend!

The coolest thing I ever built? wow, that's a tough one....how about them underwater robots in that new movie Spare Parts? :) (Virgina, Duke, and Stanford were built in my shop by me and my son)

but the Chevy II is kinda neat too.

this kindling chair is the coolest thing I have built . forced me to give up on machinery and rigid measuring and fabrication. just went for it. all by gut instinct and this freedom carries over to the hot rod stuff I enjoy too.

  28. I built this in my two car garage, then painted it in my driveway (8BA, C4). Not a show car, just a driver.. but it puts a smile on my face.

The garage to hold of my cars and stuff. Worked out of a driveway or my 1 car garage under the house for 40 plus years.
Went to the bank, signed a 10 year note and got diggin' and building.
Now I've got room. Only wish I could have done this earlier in life when I had cars I loved but no ability to stash them away.
No, I didn't build the Model A. A friend in Upstate NY built it and I bought it from him.
I have talent but his talents are far superior to mine.

IMG_8428.JPG Friend of mine built this but it's been on loan to me. 20 horse diesel, with chipper and a generator on front. You have to run and stand back when you engage the saw blade until it spools up and settles down, even then it's pretty hairy. Great for tree cleanup and firewood.
