I have installed a 500cid cadillac engine in my model "A" ford, what kind of radiator do I use, what brand? I don't want the damn thing overheating all the time, out here in San Jose,ca. it gets hot in the summer. There is a newer radiator in it wich cooled a sbc that was in it, I don't think it is enough to cool the caddy. Any input is great, thanx!
Most Cadillacs I've seen used similar or the same Harrison radiators as their Chevrolet cousins in similar applications. Usually a thick core heavy duty with a shroud. I suspect this was more because of the need to cool a big heavy car with a full load of toys (power this and that) and air, than because the engine had that much more of a BTU requirement to cool than a Chevolet motor. If the radiator is relatively new and cooled the Chev, run it, you might be suprised, especially if you properly run a shroud.
Johnny, We have a 500 Cad in our 32, and thus far it cools just fine, even in Arizona weather. It runs a belt driven fan (no shroud), and a Walker radiator. It usually runs about 180-190, although we've never run it with the hood sides on. Hope this helps. -Ryan
You might want to look this up to confirm it, but some of those 472s & 500s were really designed to run at 210-215 degrees. Or so I've been told by more than one semi-reputable source....
A little OT but i've also got a 500 caddy lined up for my next project.. I heard rumors that someone is making a 3x2 setup or at least has one in development. Anyone know who this was?
