I am looking for suggestions on how to mount my cooling component fan to a Walker radiator. They send 4 sheet metal screws and suggest screwing the shroud to the outer edge of radiator this is very close to the tubes. If any one has any ideas it would be appreciated
I put one of their 2700cfm 2 5/8" thick fan and shroud combos on a Walker Cobra in my '40 Ford pickup a few years ago and did not have a problem. Seems I remember there being about a 1/2" of space to work with. Layout the hole location on the shroud drill the holes and transfer to the radiator. Hope this helps.
they have a great product. have used several and no problems with installation and performance. just follow their instructions. happy cooling....
I have done a few in 40's ---mount to outer edge of radiator thru shround BUT also drill thru the metal fan mount and screw that to the radiator as well--have seen the plastic shroud break when only attached by the edges of the plastic shroud
I don't like sheet metal screws in this application. If it were me, I'd drill through, and use a bolt, washers, and a nylock (split-lock washers do not work, BTW, according to NASA). Even a plain nut and bolt is better than a simple screw.
I think you'll find that the outside (end) row of tubes on Walker radiators, are "dead" and will give you additional room if needed, for shroud mounting. "Rivet nuts" work really well for mounting, and make a really clean, secure mount.
