I'm getting ready to do the same thing. Howe racing sold me a radiator and told me the trick to cooling was all in the shroud you use. Then the very same week I was watching MuscleCar on Spike TV and they built a shroud saying the exact same thing, Hope this helps.

Yes, you can. I run one on my open car and several of my friends run them in closed cars with no problems.

  4. Did you run out of room or is it that you just want an electric fan?

Electrics won't pull the air a mechanical one will.

What kind of car and engine combo are you running?

Since all FWD factory cars with cross mounted engines do it, the answer is yes. You can mount the fan in front of the radiator (pusher) or behind (puller) Puller is preferable, and shrouding, even with electric fans, makes a big difference. If the motorvation is a SBC, are you already using a short water pump?

  7. Actually unless you are running a fan shroud, and electric will work better on a car with an open engine bay.

A shroud is a good idea but not essential as the fan is mounted directly against the radiator core in most instances. the shroud wiuld make it pull air across a wider area of the core.

Look for a spal fan or some other curved blad fan as opposed to a straight blade fan, it'll pull more air and you won't need as big a fan that way.

I cool my sbc with an 11" fan and no shroud, granted I'm not running a hoodless car. But I do have a spare 11" set up on a toggle. I've run the second fan I think once since I went to this setup about a year ago.

  8. Most fans have a higher cfm rating when pushing than when pulling.

If you are running a puller fan does adding a pusher as well make a large differance in the cooling capacity?:D
