Cooling fins, looks or function, see pic.

  1. Saw this pic from the Revolution show Ryan had over the weekend.

    Awesome little Model A RPU.

Now take a look at these way cool cooling fins on the Radiatior hose connectors.

Do you think they actually serve a purpous helping cool the engine?

I have seen applications similar to this in the past that did help cooling on stationary engines. The only real difference is the cooling fins ran long ways on the pipe. THe object is to act as a heat soak just as the fins on the radiator I would imagine.

The Engine on this rpu is very nice one way or the other, just wanted to know if anyone else thinks they my have a positive affect on the cooling of the engine.

Thanks to 51Chevysled for the pic and many others he took at the show.

To a very small degree, they would probally reduce the temp of the coolant running through the lines, but why do you need to??

The fluid is headed into the radiator where all the BTUs get dissipated and the coolant does it's job.

Do they help? No. Do they look cool? Yep. Kindof a Jetsons kind of vibe...

  3. Any time you have more surface area that can be heated up, the more heat is radiated away.

Like FlamedAbone says, the effect in this case would be minimal.

They would be more efficient painted, powdered or anodized black.

neat looking, but I dont think there are enough fins to do any real good. Look at any air cooled device and it's got as many fins and they can pack in.
