Well, my teenaged grandaughter gave me a set of fuzzy dice when I first got my roadster to where it even looked like a hot rod, so I guess when I finish it I'll have to hang them over the mirror for awhile just for her!
But I'm still gonna get even with my son about it, as I'm sure he put her up to it. Shouilda seen him standing behind her, grinning like a possum shittin' persimmon seeds when she gave them to me!!!!!
Down here in GA when the '55 cars came out, on up till '58 or so, the guys who were"cool" and had enough money to buy a new or late model car of those years were all installing "cruiser skirts" and "Yankee Mirrors". These mirrors were installed on top of the fenders, left and right, about halfway forward towards the headlights. Did that fad occur all over?

In the 63/64 years Ford had a problem with certain fabric on the seats. When you would slide out and touch the ground and the car you would be shocked by ESD Electro Static Discharge.. The dealers installed leather straps. They had a FOMOCO part number. Also had a tech bulletin on where to mount. The main problems were with the Mercury Comets.. The ESD was also blamed on some fires at fuel stations. I agree the fake rubber one's did look stupid............................................................

the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser didn't come out until 1957. But you are right that they were all over the place once they did.

Buick port holes on any car except the original buicks, cassette player with speakers under the car that plays squealing tires, tires hanging 8" out the side of the body (front & back), 30" wheels, and techno style wheels on vintage tin.

  10. The Brahma bull stickers that the "recent arrivals" put on the doors of their pickups, here in SoCal, along with the leaping horse hood ornament, chrome bed rails, visor, miniature lariat and saddle hanging from the mirror, whitewalls and a" I 'Heart' Michoacan" bumper sticker.

I still don't get it. As far as I know, rubber and leather are non conductive. How does this discharge static electricity? Or is it just by some sort of friction, like socks on a rug? But it must work ifn Ford had a part nr, eh? Any redneck rocket scientists out there with the scoop?
I do remember some trucks dragging chains, though. Gary

Add on sun visors. And what is the deal with those chrome things that cover the top half of a sealed beam headlight? Weird.

these are based after ww2 black out lights

it was common to see lake pipes not hooked up, back in that time because most kids could not afford to have pipes hooked up after they bought them.

the ones we sold at the autoparts store had a copper mesh weaved into them ( could only see it on the ends of the strips from dragging or when you drilled it . sold alot of them to the pipeline guys and the flammable tanker truck guys to hang on the truck/trailer frames and they do work as I drive a tanker and they are required by our safety dept . the static travels over the outside on the layerof dust or thru the weave. some of the boomers with the high watt stereos use them too .

for me its anythign that they sell at the three dorks or vatozone plastic chrome section ., my vehicles are plain as they get

Some of the ugliest stuff would look kind of quaint now, I would smile if I saw one of the full width white station wagon mudflaps on the back of a car, particularly if it was accompanied with a lit blue acrylic winged swan hood ornament.

As far as today's worst, those idiotic "bad ass boys drive bad ass toys" decals. I really don't want to know how you feel about your ass toys, bad or good.

In this part of the world it was traditionally the little plastic lemon-shaped bottles in which lemon juice was sold that got attached to the tops of radio antennae. Fake fur dashboard lawns were big, too. My cousin had an idea to start selling little lawnmowers ...

Is it wrong that I read through this entire thread looking for things that I might like to put on my car?

Anyone remember the bright yellow / orange styrofoam balls that WLS radio in Chicago handed out in the 60's? You stuck them on your radio antenna! Or the Chicken Man radio episodes they ran, for that matter? Gary

  29. I sold some license plate frames once that were little shark teeth all the way around, I thought they were pretty goofy.

Some of that vintage stuff is neat, though, as long as it comes in small doses.
