I know there are mixed thoughts on the use of copper header gaskets. I've got a set on my SBC with cast iron heads and headers, and they seem to work fine. My current project has aluminum heads, and I'll be running cast iron rams horn exhaust manifolds. My question is: Does anyone know if there are any issues with using copper gaskets between aluminum heads and cast iron exhaust manifolds? Is the copper compatible with the aluminum and cast iron? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate your sharing it. Thanks! Evil Clown
Not sure about the copper gaskets but I was told, and had good luck adding high temp(copper) rtv to my exhaust system gaskets.
I have aluminum on my flathead, copper gaskets are considered the top shelf of the gaskets. Only thing I know for sure is the electrolosis is a scare with the alum. I researched and bought the no-rosion product that is supposed to prevent that. Use it along with distilled and a bit of sierra antifreeze
Copper is the high end of the gaskets. Just make sure everything is very clean because while more durable, copper isn't more forgiving than cheapo gaskets.
