growing up in a small town i got a ticket for that once.
cops got nothing better to do than pull the kid over in the 67' mustang and rouse him for a bit.
couldn't find anything, but he decided my mufflers were too loud.
2 1/2 exhaust with gl*** packs. wasn't even that loud really.

did a little research on the matter. found out an ispection station can give you a peice of paper that says your sound level meets all CA regulations.
got that, went to court. no problem.
probably not going to issue you one for open headers though. heh.

i thought all that non-sense was history too.
plenty of harleys driving around here i'd love to get a ticket.
    loud pipes = pretty cool
open headers on a harley at 2am setting off every car alarm in the neighborhood = not so cool

    gary.

yep, got dumps on my 28 and they are coming off this year. if the harley's in my neighborhood can run their full race S&S harley motors with open headers anytime they want then I can run my little 3/4 race flatty through a set of lake dumps.

Wow...good for rodding, but I hope you never need any other types of criminal caught!

Play the game...if they write you up, swap out the open headers with something quieter and get the ticket signed off. Then switch them back. Just make sure you dont have any PBR on your breath when you roll up to the checkpoint. I would think a proof of insurance checkpoint would be better, huh?

Yup, not only that, they publish the date, time and location of checkpoints like this in the paper ahead of time! The ACLU thinks it's entrapment to surprise 'em. First time I've heard of RBPD doing one for exhausts. Usually it's DUI and license/insurance. Where was it setup Pogo? Down by the Esplanade?

Oklahoma Highway Patrol and DEA used to set up a drug check stop south of Tulsa, at Highway 75 and Highway 117. Highway 117 p***es under 75, they'd put up signs a few hundred yards before the exit "DEA Drug Enforcement Roadblock Ahead". The DEA waited under the overp*** and stopped all cars exiting. They'd ask why you chose to exit there, if you seems nervous, they'd bring the drug dogs over for a sniff.

Anyone staying on 75 where the signs were posted kept going.

In California, they can not legally write you a ticket for loud pipes unless they have a DB meeter.... It would be like sitting on the side of the road and guesing at the speed of p***ing cars..... If they write you a ticket without having and showing you the results, then the ticket is illegal.... The most common thing they will try to stick on the ticket is "modified emisions system" which, as we all know, doesn't apply to any cars on this board..... Most CA smog referee stations will do the test for you, and give you a printed report of the outcome..... If a cop tries to give your non smog vehicle a ticket for having no muffler, that is wrong... there is no law that says you have to have a muffler, just one governing the noise level...... An old straight 6 sounds great with no muff, but is also well below the legal limit....:D

Now, none of this applies to your secret obsession with Honda's.... Throwing in a cat back system without an EO number on your SI will get you a ticket........

In Texas they have DUI checkpoints where they ask for your driver's license and insurance...

oh yeah I'd freaking *LOVE* to see some roadblocks in LA checking license and insurance...I'd bet 2 outta 3 drivers wouldn't have one or the other!

    Muffler check ? Kinda wierd.

No loud vehicles…. Some ‘know-nothing-about-the-real-world’ guy in a suit came up with that idea. A loud vehicle will get the attention of inattentive make-up appliers, cell phone users and soccer moms. Loud pipes are a safety feature. A safety feature that should be required on any vehicle that doesn’t stand a chance in an accident with a SUV…

  15. Here in New Zealand it's illegal to run open headers, and they've recently introduced legislation putting a db limit on exhaust noise. It's an attempt to quieten down the ricers with fart cans. We have a six monthly inspection system here, and I've seen the inspectors revving **** out of a ricer to see if they could get it over the limit.

In pomona last year while going to the Father's day show there was a drivers license check. People going to jail, cars getting impounded and a bunch of "spectators" on the side of the road watching it all!

They even had motors down the side streets to catch the ones trying to avoid the check point.

  18. I got stuck in a CHP check lane (not a clue what the true purpose was) in Oxnard back in '68. I was driving my '62 Vette that had a factory type trailer hitch for that era on it. The ball stuck up in the middle of the plate. They made me take the ball off because it partially obscured my Michigan plate. I thought that was exceptionally chicken ****...good to know that hasn't changed much.

I actually got pulled over and went to jail last week(seperate story all together ), but I know part of the reason I caught the CHP's attention was my 235(headers/straight pipes) making like a crazy popcorn popper on the freeway. They mentioned it once they got the cuffs on anyway... as well as the blue dots, no front license plate, ect... the funny thing is they didn't ticket me for any of that ****.

Man, I'm with you on that one... The Harleys are what drive me up the wall, and I live in WV, land of the coal truck. It's not so much the loud exhaust, as someone with half a brain can keep in under raps pretty well in a residential neighborhood, its the ****s that don't realize what that thingy under their foot does and come down the damn hill in front of my house in 2nd gear poppin' and backfiring the whole way 'cause they're too damn dumb to fatten up the mix after putting their only engine mod, loud exhaust, on. Having loud exhaust is one thing, drivin' through a residential neighborhood and showing everyone how loud your exhaust is just maeks you a douchebag. Wish they'd just drive their Audi or Lexus to their law practices instead of their "way cool" Harley.

i hate cops. heres a good clip about the cops in MY town....

    http://www.foxnews.com/video2/launchPage.html?051006/051006_wnyw_diaz&Cop%20Diploma&WNYW-New_York&Cops%20getting%20degrees%20on-line&FOX%205%20WNYW&-1&Cop%20Diploma&Video%20Launch%20Page

i live in a small town....because i had a web site on the back of my van and a bunch of stickers, they wanted to impound my vehicle because it wasnt registered as commercial.

that was after they got mad because the cop thought he was smart and that the cutoff for seat belts was earlier or something and he "never heard of nothing like that"

i was on my way to work in a suit and tie....he tried to say i was a contractor because it was a van and i had sheetrock int he back from when i did my garage...

it was the day before thanksgiving.

he gave me the option to search my vehicle or he would tow my car.

im not stereotypical in the sense that i was clean cut, wearing a suit n tie, had my work badge on and my damn leather briefcase!

granted the van is green with flames on it but...damn

I got a ticket once in Montclair, near Pomona on my old bike. Apparently those cops know how to tell speed by listening to which gear your in??? I got the old "By the sound of your rev you were going alteast 45mph in a 25mph" I fought it i and won, first off I was going to play some drag racing sounds and have the ***hole give me the ETs based on his good ear!!! Though the out come was that that son-***** fail to notice that that street is actually a 35mph. And also note that every street has an average driven speed, and I was withing the limits of that. He'd did fail to see how many non-working or missing parts my bike had.

the police are the revenue gathering arm of the mob, excuse me, government. My GF got pulled over in Palmdale for having a hitchball in front of the license plate. The pig, I mean, "officer", was extremely snippy when my girlfriend said she had never heard of that law... he knew it was complete ********. They keep laws on the books like that to use against you when they feel like being a ****. Unless you are shooting at someone, anytime they **** with you it's to write a ticket and justify their existance, plain and simple.

That reminds me, i've had radar guns pulled on me so many times, when I had 4.11 gears in my mustang. It would rev up hard to get to the speed limit (55), but they thought it sounded like I was racing. I remember one cop turned around and aimed that radar gun like it was ****ing High Noon or something, only to give up all dejected when he realized I was only doing 40mph...

no arrests or maybe 1 arrest was made...

"this took quite a while to coordinate this effort" "we are waiting to make arrests" "some drugs and weapons were found....and well...they had a BAR would you believe that a full working BAR in there clubhouse"

80 swat team? 1 at the most arrest...and took a white to coordinate? HAH. read between the lines

    the best part....

“The shoe drops later,” Harley said, noting that no one was arrested or charged Tuesday in connection with the searches. Some people were detained, however, while investigators searched for narcotics and charges might be filed at a later time, he said.
