IIRC Grand bouelvard is the track. Since Grand is circular, the city got the nickname "Circle City" . Three International road race3s were run in 1913, 14 & 16.

The PBS show you may be thinking of, or at least the one I saw was called "Californias' Gold" with Huel Howser. (sp)... might help with your search

Are you aware there was also a oval dirt track in Corona, CA in 1953? This is where Parnelli Jones and Marvin Porter got started in jalopy races with the Circle City Racing ***ociation. The attached photo is Marvin Porter. Enjoy.

  8. If you can find it, Harold Osmer's books "Where They Raced" parts 1 and 2 are an exhaustive history of ALL the tracks that existed in southern CA. Also includes a lot of info on significant events held at each track. Corona is well featured in the first book.

There was also a Corona Raceway in the hills (or what used to be hills) I grew up racing motocross there. Its now homes and my cousin lives in what used to be the pits. I would like to see one of those arial/satalite pics of then and now.

When in Corona, Ca. Stop by Chaffin's Garage. This is a Model-T paradise. Even if you're not a M/T guy, the Victorian house alone is worth the trip. <O:p</O:p

Dirt Tracker (Scott Bloomquist) got his start at Corona Raceway back a few years ago and won a track champ there before moving to Tenn.

Corona Raceway is a different animal, we were talking about legal street racing.

Read above post...slowly. (about the other tracks)
I know the history of the OLD Corona racing on the "circle". (street)
My mother-in-law lived there for years and I have drove them streets.
