Corvairs can be a lot of fun to build. I agree with the earlier posting that a 140 HP engine and four-speed would be a great way to get some more urge out of Nader's nemesis. The turbo engines also make a lot of useable HP, and like the four-carb mill, can be tuned for more go. Just remember to decamber the rear suspension and fit some decent shocks to ensure your 'Vair corners with all that extra oomph.
Heres' a couple pics from 'back in the day' of what you could/should do with a pre-'65 'box-body style' 'Vair!! Mart3406 ============================
I, at one time had over 120 corvairs. I bought the first one and then people started giving them to me.. I couldn't say no. The first one was a driver. Nice car.. I paid 25 bucks for it..And it had a half tank of gas.. This was the early 70's. I ran out of places to stash them when the lot I was using was turned into an apt. complex, Quite a few went to the impound. Had a few guys pick thru them and buy the good ones.. 38 years later, I still have 3
Ask anybody with a Corvair, they never have just 1... I had 3 at one time... One was a '60 Coupe, a 65 110hp 4sp conv., and a '64 Greenbrier
That car belongs to a guy who has a shop close to mine. He knows Corvairs. He builds a sweet H.E.I. conversion for them.. I asked him about doing another blown Corvair and he said "bring it on". His car sounds mean as hell.
900 times you'll ask "what was i thinking" 900 parts you wont be able to find in stock at the parts store. 900 people will come up and ask if you have any good heads. just messing around..they are neat little cars. rashy has been tinkering with a van for a few years now...they have their own issues..but all cars do..enjoy...
