Easily rebuilt if needed by the Damper Doctor. GMC 6’s had finned ones too.

I don't have one, just saw an ad on CL for one (for $600!). I'm no wealth of SBC knowledge, just surprised I haven't come across mention of them, especially if they are of much benefit.

The fins were thought by most people to have been for cooling but it is my understanding that they were originally designed as reinforcements, the GM replacement damper/balancers have no fins.

Oh God, now you have done it..........All the pure nostalgia guys will be running out to check their current harmonic balancers and spending boat loads of money if they don't have a finned one!

Well I guess that about covers it. The reinforcement theory sounds good, although could have been triangular gussets. And cooling fins shaped more like, cooling fins.. At least now if I see one at a swap meet for 10 bucks..

Not just Corvette applications either as the L-79 Nova and Chevelle 327's and 67-68 Z-28 302's used these balancers/dampers.

  9. L-79S had them in all body styles not just a vette thing.

A friend of mine has had a number of L79 cars, one was an original L79/4 speed 1967 Chevelle wagon, fun car, quite a sleeper, I got to drive it on a short trip we took to look at an unrestored 1966 L79 Nova SS.
