Hi Vetterod 62, I appreciate the invite but I'm booked for the 2015 racing season. I race with the Ohio Outlaw AA/gassers and we have 15 events this year in 7 states. Hope to catch up with you some where.
You coming back to Bowling Green this year? We hope to have our 66 Vette back on the road cruising this year.
It is a great picture. Appears to be Skip Hess' Wildabeast. Also another early Vette with a scoop behind it. Not sure if I have seen a white Vette with a scoop from that era. Probably another modified sports
Baron if you look closely it appears there is two back of the white Vette and then another three back. Then there is one directly behind it (if you peer over the hardtop) behind the push car to his left. So both feeder lanes have early Vettes. I can only imagine all are MSP. Since Hess moved onto his Anglias shortly after his episode with the 62 this is probably 1963ish. Would have loved to have been there that day to witness the group go at it.
The picture was taken at the Nationals at Indianapolis, so I am sure all of the Heavy Hitters in the Sports Modified class were there
I am sure you are correct. Sam Cunningham took class in 63 at Indy but I believe he drove his 61 Vette without a top, so I don't think it is any of the group in that photo. If that was Indy 1963 it must have been a good show for sure. If they only had way back machines.
Thanks elgringo for the pictures and Jim for the info. Keep the pictures coming. Worked on mine all day today.
I see the white corvette says 405, maybe he was ahead of his time and was king of street racing in Oklahoma. jp
You might be right Bomber, the photos were said to have come from Indy but some have already been identified as Connecticut. Either way its a great shot and this thread is getting more activity.
I am not positive that this is the same car but the picture came from the same photo colection and its a fuel injected car with the same black and white license plates. If it is you don't want to know how the story ends.
Jason feel free to clue us in. Many of these cars were thrown away and/or destroyed. Look at how many drag cars were destroyed by the stock gurus. I have a couple of carcasses of these early Vettes that were sadly thrown away. Both will be brought back as drag cars. The driver apparently likes showing he is number one.
