There were very few that could do both, but this one certainly did. It was always flawless every time it was on the track.
jimdillon, I was looking up old threads. This photo was indeed in Scottsdale Az. at BEELINE DRAGWAY. I remember that day quite well. It was amazing he was not to badly hurt. GREAT PICS. Chucks speed center is still open to this day.
Els when you see the balled up mess it is hard to imagine no one getting seriously injured. Too bad the car did not survive as it looked like a cool car.
Well you guys are in for a treat. I haven't found many vette photos lately but last night I stumbled across a site FULL of REAL corvette gassers. A small sample until I get a bunch downloaded Ballyhoo Ben Pilla speed Shops Carol Yenter Olander Bros Chitown Guzzler Rusty Delling
No, Thank You. You put an awesome show on as always. I probably won't get to see the car run again till maybe October if you are coming to Goodguys in BG
Well bad news. While downloading some I thought some of these look familiar checked and sure enough have ALREADY exploited these two sites and posted then in here Sorry for the false alarm. Will keep looking
I'm with "enloe". You certainly put the effort into bringing us the photos, and you put thought into checking if you've shown them before.
Wow great thread and some very cool looking gasser's. I remember the days when many vette's ran in the Modified Sports classes back in the mid 60's Jimbo
The blue 58 that Loudbang posted is still around albeit in a different livery. According to the last owner I know of, the car won class at the Nationals at Indy in 83, 84 and 85. Not all bad. The last time I saw pictures of it (can't find them at present) it appears to have been made into a pro-street car with a blower sticking through the hood-medium blue metallic in color. I wish more would leave drag cars looking like drag cars-especially if they won class at Indy three years running.
Cool pic Loudbang. Read somewhere (maybe on this thread-who knows) that Hill's 62 Vette had a 377ci that ran 9.40s on nitro.
That '62 looks like Almond Beige, a pretty rare color. I had four quarts of it in Dupont factory pack lacquer long time ago and got a good price for it.
Doug you are correct it does look like almond beige. I like the color better than white but if I had my druthers, black is probably my favorite of the 62 factory colors (then sateen silver, then almond beige etc). It is a color that is very seldom seen.
Jason , I really like maroon but if I had to choose a maroon back when they originally chose the color I would have opted for a different shade. That is just me as I know of others that really like the color. In fact my present project (off topic old Cadillac) will have a maroon chassis and I really like the color. On some of the classics out of the 30s it is one of my all time favorites. If we all liked the same color equally it would be quite boring I assume. When I bought my black car it had just been painted with Honduras Maroon. I studied it from every angle for a while before deciding to go black (back in 1977 and has been black ever since-first nitrocellulose and then acrylic and now urethane). Was hard in a way to strip new paint but us car guys sometimes cannot be understood.
